I am not alone, of course, as most Americans, as well as 78% of primates with club feet, enjoy a good laugh. But while advertising has long been a bastion of humor-based marketing programs, the PR business has been reticent to embrace satire as a means of delivering a message. During a recent discussion about the use of humor in the public relations sector, an industry colleague suggested to me that, "PR people aren't intrinsically funny," adding, "humor is challenging to do well. " To wit, an Indiana University study found "The Daily Show" to be as substantive as network news.
