http://beespace.net/ As I browsed through and responded to the different introductions posted on the LAK11 Moodle forum, I noticed with satisfaction that many participants came from countries other than the US, UK and Canada, with a larger contingent than usual from non-English speaking countries in Europe, South America and Asia. As Stephen Downes mentioned in the first Elluminate recording , a connectivist course is based on 4 pillars : autonomy, diversity, openness and interactivity. I’m going to focus on cultural diversity in this post, which I deem critical in education. Each country has its own educational system, cultural and social norms + expectations which should be taken into account, especially when it comes to finding out what questions are to be asked when building/using tools which gather data, to choosing the right variables, to analyzing and to interpreting data about learners, based on which suggestions are made and many times decisions taken.

Robin Good : Maria Popova has just launched a classy and laudable initiative, focused on increasing awareness and in highlighting the importance of honoring always where or via who you have got to a certain article, report, video or image. Credit and attribution are not just a "formal" way to comply with rules, laws and authors but an incredibly powerful emebddable mechanism to augment findability, discovery, sinergy and collaboration among human being interested in the same topic. She writes: " In an age of information overload, information discovery — the service of bringing to the public’s attention that which is interesting, meaningful, important, and otherwise worthy of our time and thought — is a form of creative and intellectual labor, and one of increasing importance and urgency. A form of authorship, if you will.

Team Academy - management school without teachers

A couple of weeks ago while participating in the 3rd SoL Global Forum in Mucscat, Oman, I met some folks from a -generally seen- pretty crazy management school in Finland. Just a few minutes ago I got an invitation to the starting event of Teamfactory in Paris. What Team Academy is basically about is: When you enter Team Academy on your first day there everything we think goes on in a management school turns out to be upside-down. Right from the start you are "thrown" into the business wilderness (what some of us experience only after some years of studying, visiting lectures, writing examens - not really knowing what it is to be in the "real business world") and start off as "entrepreneurs" on their own. http://leanthinkers.blogspot.com/2008/06/team-academy-management-school-without.html

The Social Technographic Ladder 2009 | Olivier Mermet

The idea is to position a zone above another one in order to create the perception that the smaller one, the one above, is in fact real content, whereas the bigger zone behind it works as a background. It is one of the elements that increase the saliency of an element within a page. It goes without saying that this principle in itself will not be enough but it complements the principles of similarity, proximity, good continuity, … On the central buttons of the Ethias site, the set of basic principles is strengthened by the principle of Smallness/Area. This gives the buttons added saliency.

http://www.mediamapproject.org/sementic_1.html MediãMāp aims at promoting new collaborative audiovisual production services using the network as a federative channel. The project includes new concepts using semantics and ontology elements adapted to the audiovisual world in order to create a high level contextual search engine and a new audiovisual web portal. This places the amateur user and creator of AV content as a new actor of the web TV life providing him/her with new tools to enhance the level of his/her production. During very a long time, it did not seem necessary to create a tool to split human and logic which were considered, in their role, like only one and even entity!

The Knowledge Inventory: In order to create anything useful, there must be an inventory of parts, a bill of materials, or an accounting system with assets on one column and liabilities (deficiencies) in the other column.

A concept to change our mindset? These bats sense the world mainly through echolocation - the limit to their perception is their "umwelt" (Image: Tim Flach/Getty) Every January the cognoscenti know to look out for the annual question posed by literary agent and self-styled intellectual impresario John Brockman on his Edge "salon" website . The trick, of course, is to get the question just right so that the great and good - and the wannabes - feel compelled to play what is often the smartest game in town.
