The REAL Reason for the Mass Shooting Epidemic in America

Do people really genuinely want the answer? I get the impression that they don't. Perhaps that's because the real answer leads us into territory that is not very politically correct, and not very comfortable to look at, so people prefer to look elsewhere. Most Americans seem to be looking for a convenient answer, one that matches their politics and doesn't put them in a position where they might have to question their own part in the problem. This tendency to avoid reality and look for a quick fix instead is actually the beginning of the problem. Over the past 20 years the use of antidepressant medication has skyrocketed. If a global war declared by the world's sole military and economic superpower against a shadowy, fragmented, franchisable, and loosely-grouped band of erstwhile 'dangerous' but also 'ravaged' and 'largely dismantled' terror group was over, how would you know it?

US defense department general counsel, Jeh Johnson, says responsibility for tackling al-Qaida should pass to the police and other law enforcement agencies when the 'tipping point' in pursuit of group is reached. (Photograph: Alex Wong/Getty Images) You wouldn't, of course, which is the reason that few ask and almost none, especially members of the US government or military, talk about anything that resembles the "official" end of what has long become known as the "global war on terrorism," or GWOT. In his presentation at Oxford, Johnson asked, "Now that efforts by the U.S. military against al Qaeda are in their 12th year, we must also ask ourselves: how will this conflict end? A Warrior Armoured Fighting Vehicle in Afghanistan. "If we had given $59,444 to each family in Afghanistan, or provided, say, a new pick-up truck and a free college education for one of their daughters, we would not now be bogged down in a war that all agree cannot be won," writes Zimmerman. The Congressional Research Service (CRS) says the U.S. spent $738 billion (in 2011 dollars) fighting the war in Vietnam. The World Bank estimates that when the war began in 1964 the population of Vietnam was 38 million. Assuming five per family, simple arithmetic reveals that instead of waging a ten-year war that killed two million Vietnamese and 58,000 Americans, we could have given each of those families $97,105. This startling fact begs the question about our policy in Afghanistan. The defense budget isn't just for defense.
