GetJar: Mobile App Sales Will Overtake CD Sales By 2012 (Video + An independent study released this morning by neutral app store GetJar indicates that the market for mobile apps should grow to a whopping $17.5 billion within the next three years. This would basically mean that the value of apps sold would be greater than the value of CDs sold in 2012 ($13.83 billion). According to the same study, downloads of mobile apps to handsets will leap from slightly more than seven billion in 2009 to nearly 50 billion in 2012, representing a YOY growth of 92%. The figures are pretty much in line with other forecasts, such as research2guidance’s prediction that the worldwide smartphone application market will grow from $1.94 billion in 2009 to $15.65 billion by 2013.

En ce qui concerne le nombre total d'applications, on retient que l'AppStore propose 150 000 applications, en croissance de 13,865 applications en Janvier tandis que l'Android Market en propose actuellement environ 20 000, affichant une croissance de 3 005 applications en Janvier. Pour ce qui est du type d'applications, les jeux représentent pas moins de 58 % des applications. Les jeux de type Puzzlespèsent 15 %, les jeux d'action et d'arcade suivent avec chacun 11 % du total. Le prix moyen d'un jeu s'établit lui à 2,24 $, moins chers que les jeux Windows Mobiles ou BlackBerry, et juste un peu plus onéreux que les jeux Android.

L'AppStore propose ainsi 25 % d'applications gratuites tandis que l'Android Market lui en propose 57 %.
