Postgraduate Contemporary Women's Writing Network. Cross-institutional, student-led, bringing together postgrad scholars working on contemporary women's writing

Cococatani: Don't know where to go with... The_cwwa: PGs in #cww will be attending... More good news… My essay, “Pinspiration: How Pinterest reinforces American ideals of feminine beauty and shame,” will be published in American Shame: Body, Culture, and the Politics of an Emotion, scheduled to be released in summer 2013.

More good news…

I’ll also be presenting “Getting Shorter, Thinking Bigger: Feminist advocacy in the digital age” at the Postgraduate Contemporary Women’s Writing Network’s conference, The F Word in Contemporary Women’s Writing in early April. Don’t forget that I’ll also be delivering a lecture on the politicization of women’s health next Thursday, December 6th at (un)SAFE: A Graduate Student Conference in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. See you there! No, I Don’t Spend All My Time On Twitter. Time for a short update on my academic activities.

No, I Don’t Spend All My Time On Twitter

Just because I can, and because I’ve been doing so many different things over the past few weeks that I need to step back and take a look. I’ve been busy with training lately. UEA offers a great program for research students; over the past few weeks I’ve learned how to publish my work, how to write more effectively, how to write for a non-academic audience, and how to engage with the media.

Very useful, and it’s a great way to meet fellow research students. I’ve also been working on several abstracts for conferences. Furthermore, there’s the paper on Joyce Carol Oates’ Foxfire which I’ll deliver at The F Word. There’s also an exciting event taking place this summer in Norwich: the PGR showcase. And then there’s my main project. Plenty of stuff to do, in other words.

The F Word: A Short Report

I could write a long and detailed report but actually I only need one word: awesome. First of all, it was a great opportunity to hear what others are up to. The programme was varied, with people presenting on many different subjects. The panels, however, worked very well. It was great to see how different topics spoke to each other and every session was followed by a productive discussion. It was also a great opportunity to get feedback on my own work. But most importantly, perhaps, it was a lot of fun. Given the theme of the conference we had many discussions about feminism. I would like to thank everyone who made the conference such a big success. Facebook activity. Estellemalmed: Thanks so much to @pgcwwn for... HannahYelin: OK so #thefword13 was basically...
