The Animation Archive. Here’s some early design, concept art, and storyboards from Bruce Timms Legends of the Dark Knight; which unfortunately never came to fruition. (Correction: It was eventually produced and released as the nineteenth episode of The New Adventures of Batman; the follow up series to Batman: The Animated Series. The source of the images claimed it was never made, not as a part of the original Animated Series anyway… and I just assumed it was never produced) Legends of the Dark Knight was a story Timm had come up with which involved two kids arguing over what kind of character Batman was. One kid argues that Batman is friendly and goofy like the 50’s Dick Sprang Batman. His friend argues that that is not what Batman is; Batman is this really old mean guy and he’s dark and gritty like Frank Miller’s version of The Dark Knight.

As the kids explain their own ideas about who Batman is the animation plays out in the style of Dick Sprang and Frank Miller’s versions of the caped crusader.
