The Banking Disruption: can BankSimple capitalize on Mint’s success? | @Strategyist. ★ The Banking Disruption: can BankSimple capitalize on Mint’s success? Two weeks ago ReadWriteWeb reported on BankSimple‘s coming launch and nailed what’s exciting about the company’s approach to online financial services: a platform approach (API, App ecosystem)a focus on user experiences, and especially mobile user interfaces. Couple these innovations with some hints at a proven business model, and it made me want to take a closer look at this market.

A proven Business Model – but can BankSimple be Mint 2.0? What I find exciting is that BankSimple’s business model seems to resemble that of Mint, a very successful YCombinator-backed startup whose service was free for end-users and revenues came from placing ads for financial products and offering value added services. Mint was acquired by Intuit, a historical player in the Personal Finance space who made the desktop app Quicken, for $170M. Thankfully, BankSimple’s vision goes way beyond Personal Finance software. Notes: Will SaaS Provide the Final VDI Knockout? « IT's Evolutionary Transition. Over the past couple of years, a battle has been brewing. The battle is not about technology or devices. It is about data and usability. The contenders are Software as a Service (SaaS) and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI).

There are proponents for both camps. Challenges for VDI While VDI has been around for many years, it has struggled to make significant inroads into today’s IT environment. The Impact of BYOD Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) presents somewhat of a curveball for VDI. Leapfrog to SaaS Over the past few years, SaaS applications have matured significantly. Building strong National Societies: Strategy 2020 introduced the concept of National Societies that are internally strong and that play a full role as equal members of their International Federation. To progress this, the Governing Board of May 2010 requested the Secretary General, as part of his agreed objectives, to “promote Federation-wide communications through best affordable technologies that bridge the digital divide and inform and connect National Societies to ensure mutual trust and belonging, and enhance productivity, knowledge sharing, collaborative working and outreach”. Accordingly, we propose a model for bridging the digital divide.

The general objective of the digital divide initiative is to ensure that all National Societies are well-connected through information technology so that they function effectively as well as participate fully as members of the International Federation. National Societies cannot afford to be left behind by the revolution in information technology.
