Abandoned Cars Overtaken by Nature. Every classic car buff loves a great barn find story. Tales of rummaging through cobweb-entangled masses of long-forgotten stuff, then catching a glint of sunlight shining on a dust-covered heap in the far back corner enthrall. Especially when pulling away the cover brings one face-to-face with a rare automotive gem – and even better when that gem is proven to have real restoration potential. But not all abandoned rides are lucky enough to be hidden away in a decaying barn, garage or back-yard shed. Some are simply left outside, offered up to the elements like metal and glass table scraps. They’re often found in back yards of boarded-up homes or simply parked and left in fields or forests where a relentlessly hungry Mother Nature devours them little by little. Lippman’s photographic series, Paradise Parking, is on display at the Gallery Sophie Maree in Amsterdam.
Share and Enjoy. AUTO - SALON - SINGEN / virtual tour. Coffee Shop Supercars. Travis Okulski/Business Insider Every other weekend, our local coffee shop clears out the parking lot for one morning and invites a very different clientele: supercar owners. Informal gatherings like this for owners of rare or interesting cars happen across the country every week. Frequently called Cars and Coffee, it is a chance for car guys (and gals) to lose the formality of shows that are full of pristine machinery that arrived on a flatbed or in a trailer. Instead, they can enjoy a cup of coffee, some good conversation, and a great morning drive in their exotics. Every car that is at our local gathering in Chatham, NJ, Cars and Croissants, was driven there under its own power; no garage queens here. Over the last six months we have attended a few shows and seen everything from turbocharged Mazda Miatas to Spyker C8s. While it was chilly, we got out for one last show this past weekend and were incredibly impressed.
BarnCars -Luck- Barn Cars A New York man retired. He wanted to use his retirement money wisely, and decided to buy a home and a few acres in Portugal. The modest farm house had been vacant for 15 years. The owner and his wife both had died and there were no heirs. The house was sold to pay taxes. There had been several lookers but the large barn had steel doors that were welded shut. Nobody wanted to go to the extra expense to see what was in the barn, and it wasn't complimentary to the property anyway.
The New York guy bought it at just half of the property's worth, moved in and set about to tear in to the barn. What was in the barn? Classic cars, specialty cars, Mercedes, Lotus, Astin Martin, Porsche, Volvo, Austin Healy, Alfa Giulietta, BMW, Formula Racers, Chryslers, Mercedes, Austin A30, Alfa Romeo Fiat Cabriolet (1200 or 1500), Ford Cortina MKII, Mercedes Benz 180/190 Astin Martin?
