My Dell hell. I'm just a citizen, a consumer, a guy who has my own printing press - my weblog, BuzzMachine.com - and I get to use it however I want.

My Dell hell

In June, I used it to whine about the lemon of a computer Dell sold me and the customer service I didn't get. I wrote a blog post headlined, "Dell lies. Dell sucks. " There was a method to my mad rant: I learned some time ago that you can search Google for any brand, followed by the word "sucks", to find out just how much ill will is attached. (I fancied taking over this discovery and naming it, like a star I'd found in the heavens: "The Jarvis Sucks Index". All I wanted to do was warn off other unsuspecting customers by joining in Google's wisdom of the crowds, adding just one more critical consumer opinion. I decided to turn this into a test: Was Dell reading blogs? At the same time, I decided to follow the light and went shopping for an Apple. BuzzMachine. Verizon has now on multiple occasions refused to connect my Google Nexus 7 LTE tablet, though the device was publicized widely as working on Verizon and though I know from other users that it will work on its network.

On Twitter, its support spokesman said in response to my repeated inquiries over four days: Verizon is thus clearly violating FCC regulations governing its acquisition of the spectrum that enables its LTE service, which require it to open to *all* devices. To quote from the regulations (my emphasis): (b) Use of devices and applications. Verizon also violates its promise not to violate that requirement. “Verizon Wireless—and all the other participants in the recent 700 MHz spectrum auction—understood the FCC’s rules for using that spectrum in advance of the auction.

I attempted to read the rest of Gerace’s blog post but Verizon has erased years of its posts there and the Wayback Machine does not have a cache from that date. To which I replied: “Cannot” is a lie. Hmmm.
