The Last Poets is the name for several groups of poets and musicians who arose from the late 1960s African-American civil rights movement's black nationalist movement.

The name is taken from a poem by the South African revolutionary poet Keorapetse Kgositsile, who believed he was in the last era of poetry before guns would take over. The original users of that name were the trio of Felipe Luciano, Gylan Kain, and David Nelson. However, it is the versions of the group led by Jalaluddin Masur Nuriddin and/or Umar Bin Hassan that have penetrated mass culture to a legendary degree. The Last Poets have been cited as one of the earliest influences on hip-hop music. Critic Jason Ankeny wrote: "With their politically charged raps, taut rhythms, and dedication to raising African-American consciousness, the Last Poets almost single-handedly laid the groundwork for the emergence of hip-hop History[edit] The Jalal-led group coalesced via a 1969 Harlem writers' workshop known as East Wind.

Pollen Boy on the Sun (Navajo Sandpaintings)

Pollen Boy on the SunThis sandpainting is often erroneously referred to as Eagle on the Sun, which is a complete misnomer since there is no such sandpainting. Pollen Boy, called Trahdah-de'en-eshki, on the Sun or Jo-honah-eh appears in the Blessingway and may be used for two main purposes. If done with the four sacred plants (note that in this instance there appears to be two tobacco plants shown in two different colors rather than tobacco and beans) it is meant for a boy. If done for a man or a hunter, the plants would not be used. The feathers are colored for each direction, with nine feathers each and each feather representing a song from the ceremony. 2. 3. 4. Beneath the surface of great picture, there is a geometric design in hiding. During World War II, photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt worked for the early version of the Associated Press and went on to become a Life Magazine photographer, taking over fifty cover shots for them. Polonsky Foundation Digitization Project

This invention enabled the efficient and systematic production of volumes that closely resembled manuscript books. Between 1452 and 1455, Gutenberg began to plan the production of the western world’s first printed books, including the famous 42-line Bible. To complete this monumental work, it was necessary to create 290 distinct typographic characters: specifically, 47 majuscule letters and 243 minuscule letters. The text was printed at first with 40 lines of text per page, across two columns; in the later stages of printing, this was changed to 42 lines.
