Natural modern interiors: Recycled & Up-cycled Furniture. There were a few furniture design companies at the show but these three recycled furniture designers / businesses really caught my eye as all three have a very different approach to recycled and up-cycled furniture design.

Hope you enjoy... Wind-felled Salvaged Timber Furniture Firstly, the beauty in Jonathan fields work is that each piece of furniture is made from wind-felled salvage timber and inspired by the grain and cut of the timber. With each piece of timber being hand selected and designed around the shrinkage cracks, burrs and line of the grain for the right look and minimal wastage. With this in mind each piece tells a unique story and celebrates the age and history of the tree. Old Boat Furniture This company aptly named Old Boat Furniture supply furniture to any design and colour combination, recycling timber furniture from no longer seaworthy fishing boats sourced from around South East Asia. Hot during the day, cold at night, so little water and so few living things.

At first glance it sounds awful. But most deserts I have visited have such beautiful redeeming qualities that I ultimately forget how difficult life can be here without modern comforts. Intriguing… more Things I Learned on the Arabian Peninsula After a day flying from Greece to Jordan, and from Jordan to Dubai, we arrived to a hot and dry night in the desert. Appreciating the Mountains I’ve briefly mentioned before that I am more of a mountain person than a beach person.

Then Becoming a Life Change Artist: 7 Creative Skills to Reinvent Yourself at Any Stage of Life by Fred Mandell, Ph.D and Kathleen Jordan, Ph.D is the book for you! Before I planned to interview Kathy Jordan for my Five {5} Creative Questions series, I won a copy of her book.

I was so excited that I dove right into it and have admitted that I never wanted it to end. Yes, it was that good. I also have to admit, that as a trained art historian and personal development enthusiast, this is the book I wish I would have written. Throughout Becoming a Life Change Artist, Mandell and Jordan, share accounts of people, just like you and I, who have overcome adversity to achieve their goals, whether it was going back to school, switching careers, or choosing to stay home and care for their children.

Finally, my favorite part of the book happens to fall at the end, in the appendix.

CLAIRE MARTIN : LIGHT JOURNEYS

Taking its name from the concrete slabs that remain from an abandoned World War II base, it is a tragic yet romantic landscape that commands its residents to possess the same balance of beauty and beast. Unbearable temperature highs in summer weed out the many who inhabit the free space in winter leaving only the most resilient, or the most unfortunate, as permanent residents. These same people maintain the ad-hoc infrastructure that makes it such a desirable community to visit in the cooler months. Those who stay year after year could be described as poverty stricken; living in some of the worst conditions in America.

Some residents would tell you this is the truth. Claire began her career by pursuing a degree in social work, however, switched her focus to photography when she realised that change can also be effected through this medium. Primary Resources: English:
