They're called IMGs, international medical graduates - trained doctors whose degrees are not recognized in this country. Consequently, many are going to the United States. This group, which has been estimated at 7,000 doctors, has long been touted as a solution to the shortage of doctors in Canada. But many who come here to practise still find themselves left idling outside the health-care system, as tough licensing standards and limited resources for training and support make finding a position in Canada a tedious, drawn-out process. In 1993, when there were only 24 residency positions available for such doctors in Ontario, Dr.

Canada hopes to train more Saudi medics By SAEED AL-KHOTANI | ARAB NEWS Published: Oct 12, 2010 23:59 Updated: Oct 12, 2010 23:59 RIYADH: Canada announced its willingness to attract more Saudi physicians and health-care personnel for training at its higher education institutions and facilities. "So far, our country has trained around 3,000 Saudi physicians, including the world renowned surgeon and current Health Minister Dr. Adbullah Al-Rabeeah. Van Loan made the comments at a press conference on Tuesday following the signing of a memorandum of understanding in health care between the two countries. The agreement was signed by Loan and Al-Rabeeah at the Ministry of Health in Riyadh. According to Al-Rabeeah, the MOU will allow both countries to share medical expertise and exchange physicians and health-care professionals. On Wednesday, Loan will end his visit by meeting Saudi businessmen at the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
