Ra. Ra /rɑː/[1] or Re /reɪ/ (Egyptian: 𓂋ꜥ, rˤ) is the ancient Egyptian solar deity.

Ra

By the Fifth Dynasty (2494 to 2345 BC) he had become a major god in ancient Egyptian religion, identified primarily with the midday sun. The meaning of the name is uncertain, but it is thought that if not a word for 'sun' it may be a variant of or linked to words meaning 'creative power' and 'creator'.[2] In later Egyptian dynastic times, Ra was merged with the god Horus, as Re-Horakhty ("Ra, who is Horus of the Two Horizons").

He was believed to rule in all parts of the created world: the sky, the earth, and the underworld.[3] He was associated with the falcon or hawk. When in the New Kingdom the god Amun rose to prominence he was fused with Ra as Amun-Ra. All forms of life were believed to have been created by Ra, who called each of them into existence by speaking their secret names. Role[edit] Great Sphinx of Giza. "Cleopatra I" was a Syrian princess who has married "Ptolemy V Epiphanes" (230 180 AD) as a political marriage to end conflicts between Egypt and Syria. Her dowry was Egypt giving up control over Coele-Syria, which was later the issue of a debate whether it was true ownership or just political control. After his death, she became regent for her son "Ptolemy VI Philometor". Her 4 years reign was fair and peaceful, keeping good relations with Syria and Rome, thus Egypt remained free of invasion. After her death, "Ptolemy VI Philometor" ascended the throne and married his sister "Cleopatra II" in 175 BC. In 145 BC, "Ptolemy VIII" killed his nephew and usurped the throne. Cleopatra IV and V were daughters of "Cleopatra III". Cleopatra VII The Philopator (Goddess Loving Her Father) Give me my robe, put on my crown; I have immortal longings in me. Michael C. Carlos Museum: Permanent Collection: Ancient Egyptian Art

Carlos Museum covers the full spectrum of Nile Valley civilization, from the earliest Prehistoric times, to the period of Roman domination. At the core of the collection are the artifacts acquired by Emory professor William Shelton, who traveled to Egypt in 1920. The collection has experienced tremendous growth, beginning in 1999 with the purchase of Egyptian antiquities from a small, private museum in Niagara Falls, Canada. The objects from the Niagara Falls Museum had been purchased in Egypt during the early 1860s, and include ten mummies, nine coffins, and a variety of other artifacts. The Niagara collection consists primarily of funerary material from the 21st Dynasty (ca. 1070–946 BC) to the Roman Period (ca. 31 BC–395 AD), a time of great achievement in the funerary arts.

Included in the 1999 purchase was a previously unidentified male mummy.
