'Politwoops' Collects Politicians' Deleted Tweets

In politics, there's no taking back a gaffe or a misspoken comment — except on Twitter, where tweets can be deleted, forever lost in Internet limbo. But "Politwoops" is about to change all that. A new site from the Sunlight Foundation will save politicians' deleted tweets for all the world to see, whether they were correcting a typo or they regretted sending a tweet they later realized was inappropriate — or worse. Politiwhoops provides a simple, easy-to-read look at the deleted tweets of every member of congress using Twitter, plus those of President Obama and Republican rival Mitt Romney. The platform also shows a tweet's lifespan from birth to deletion, which client was used to send each tweet and any thumbnails that were attached to a tweet. Users can respond to or retweet deleted tweets right from the site as well.

'Twittamentary' Uses Twitter to Tell Real American Stories

http://www.technewsdaily.com/4442-twittamentary-tells-twitter-stories.html NEW YORK — "I heard Twitter was a stupid place [where] people just talk about what they wanted to have for lunch. And I said, 'Well, that's where I belong, because I like lunch, too.'" That snippet from Darren Williger (known on Twitter as @williger), who identifies himself as a "sales professional," comes early in the new movie, "Twittamentary." The documentary debuted last night (June 19) in New York City at the 140 characters conference, a gathering that focuses on the human stories behind the social network. The movie is a road-trip documentary, from New York City to Los Angeles, that uses the Twitter to trace the stories of Americans across the country — from a stock trader to a homeless woman, from an improv comedian to a hooker.

Now, in an interview with the LegalTimes, Grassley has shared the secrets behind his legendary Twitter problem. It turns out his motivations may be pure, even if his execution is confounding.

Marketers know that Twitter is a valuable tool used to reach out to thousands of customers. But it's not just the output of content that's valuable — the people and other businesses you follow on social media are of equal worth. Unless your account is private, you have no control over who is following you (unless you block them). However, you personally select your followers.

A worldwide manhunt kicks off at the end of March — a search across America and Europe for five fugitives, identifiable only by their mugshots. The successful team of trackers not only gets a $5,000 bounty from the U.S. State Department. They demonstrate to the planet’s law enforcement and intelligence agencies that they can hunt down fleeting suspects using nothing but their wits and social media connections. http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2012/03/u-s-wants-you-to-hunt-fugitives-with-twitter/
