New iPad and iPhone Get Referenced in Apple iOS 5.1. The next iteration of Apple's mobile platform, iOS 5.1 beta, has been seeded to developers, and it's already yielding some interesting tidbits of information.
Buried inside the new OS are references to the next generation of iPad and iPhone, internally dubbed iPad 2,4 and iPhone 5,1, 9to5 Mac reports. An entirely new device, dubbed J33, is also referenced in the update. This could be an upcoming Apple TV box model. What do all these new references mean? Well, it depends on your imagination. On the other hand, the iPhone 5,1 could be a major new version of the iPhone, given that the iPhone 4S model was internally called 4,1. As for iOS 5.1 beta itself, it brings several fixes and improvements — and hopefully it will finally fix all outstanding iPhone 4S battery issues. iPad and iPad 2 users, iPhone 3GS, 4 and 4S users as well as third and fourth-gen iPod touch users with an Apple developer license can grab the update right away. She has enough answers to silly questions to delight you for a weekend or more. Some sites are getting a lot of mileage out of finding each and every amusing answer Siri has up her sleeve. But once the novelty has worn off, will you really use Siri in your everyday life — or will she fade into the background, an unwanted extra like Apple's previous iPhone voice control feature? After using the 4S for more than a week, I think Siri will enter our lives in small but vital ways.

Since the release of the iPhone 4S earlier this month, a number of users have complained about the device's battery life.
One intrepid user thinks he might have found a fix. Oliver Haslam at iDownloadBlog reports that turning off the ability for iOS to automatically update its time zone may be the key to improving the battery life on the iPhone 4S. Haslam reports that after turning off the "Setting Time Zone" toggle within the "System Services" section of "Location Services" (in the Settings app) has nearly doubled his phone's battery life and increased standby time nearly three-fold.
Haslam also surmises that the problem isn't actually with the iPhone 4S but with iOS 5. By turning off the automatic time zone functionality, Haslam saw improved battery life on various iOS 5 devices, including the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. The Potential Problem Haslam thinks that a bug might have crept into iOS 5 that keeps the phone pinging various location servers to update its time zone. The iTunes App Store has been around for eight months and now lists more than 25,000 apps.
If you're like me, you've probably purchased a dozen or more of these apps and hopefully, you're backing up your computer regularly to protect your purchases. But backups only work if you know how to use them to restore lost data. Frequently, the iPhone and iPod Touch require complicated restores and multiple layers of backup; this how-to will show you how to conquer the restore beast. Step 1: Reinstall your apps in iTunes A friend recently experienced a power failure that resulted in damage to his iTunes library file. iTunes automatically regenerated the file, but the iPhone and iPod Touch apps and their data were missing. We restored the apps easily from his backups and so they ended up where we expected them: Mac ~/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications or Windows C:\Documents and Settings\USERID\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\Mobile Applications.
Afterward, the apps synced again with the iPhone.
