Emeryville and Yuba City, California decide to drop their red light camera programs. Two more California cities have given up on the use of red light cameras. On Tuesday, the city councils in Emeryville and Yuba City each voted to discontinue the use of automated ticketing machines, primarily out of a concern that the programs were failing to generate the expected amount of revenue. Officials were also upset that the programs have been tying up police resources.

"Eliminating automated red light enforcement would eliminate the city's negative account balance with Redflex and allow the administrative personnel time spent by an officer to be directed elsewhere," Yuba City Police Sergeant Michael Green wrote in a memo to the council. In October 2005, city officials granted Redflex Traffic Systems, an Australian company, the right to issue traffic tickets, now worth $449 each.

Two hours to the south in Emeryville, the city council came to a similar -- and unanimous -- conclusion. Student engineers dorm room to his needs - Weird News « ArcaMax Publishing - Pale Moon. BERKELEY, Calif. (UPI) -- Some people live for their tricked-out cars, but a University of California-Berkeley student lives in a tricked-out dorm room of his own design. After several months, Cal-Berkeley freshman Derek Low created "BRAD," the Berkeley Ridiculously Automated Dorm, Berkeleyside.com reported Monday. Low can remotely manage lighting and curtain positioning, create the perfect atmosphere for homework, set the mood for romance and impress fellow dormies with his "party mode.

" Everything is designed to work through voice commands, wireless remote or a computer application. Low's been around the tech block a few times, Berkeleyside.com said. Low, who grew up in Singapore, is appears to have a heavily stamped passport, the Berkeley online publication said. Copyright 2012 by United Press International. Arduino. The Corruption of America. By Ken Murray| Years ago, Charlie, a highly respected orthopedist and a mentor of mine, found a lump in his stomach. He had a surgeon explore the area, and the diagnosis was pancreatic cancer. This surgeon was one of the best in the country.

He had even invented a new procedure for this exact cancer that could triple a patient’s five-year-survival odds–from 5 percent to 15 percent–albeit with a poor quality of life. Charlie was uninterested. He went home the next day, closed his practice, and never set foot in a hospital again. It’s not a frequent topic of discussion, but doctors die, too. Of course, doctors don’t want to die; they want to live. Almost all medical professionals have seen what we call “futile care” being performed on people.

To administer medical care that makes people suffer is anguishing. How has it come to this–that doctors administer so much care that they wouldn’t want for themselves? The above scenario is a common one. Should I have been more forceful at times? ZDNet Downloads Digest. HTMtied. Cinema Stunt by Carlsberg. Halloween Game. Debunking the Palestine Lie. Addicted to Government | The Seen and the Unseen. For those who were once addicted to some substance or activity– such as alcohol, drugs, or gambling – but broke free of it, there came a time when they realized that their activity was more in control of them than they were in control of their activity.

Often this awakening occurs while performing an irrational activity to help pay for their habit. Whether it is stealing money from work, pawning the belongings of friends or family, or breaking into their child’s piggybank, there is a sudden burst of clear thinking that shakes the addict to the core and informs them, “What you are doing is not right.”

We, as citizens of Canada and its provinces, have a serious addiction that needs to be dealt with. This addiction goes by a few names. Consider the following: The Government of Saskatchewan alone spent over $11 billion last year (April 2010 to March 2011) to provide services for its citizens. Now consider what other levels of government spend. Economic Collapse The Greatest Scam on Earth. Home | About Us | Contact | Subscribe The Greatest Scam on Earth? Banking ...Says a Retired Bankster! If bullies were actually like Nelson from the Simpsons, they would be easy to avoid. Unfortunately, most of the verbal abuse you will ever experience in life will come from co-workers, friends, or family. The people you like or love are often the worst offenders, whether they meant to or not. Even worse, most of the verbal attacks will not be obvious or cutting, but instead, they will be subtle and sarcastic. Individually, small verbal stings may not feel painful, but over time, these stings can take a toll on your confidence, stress levels, and relationships. You won’t have time to analyze the attack and think about how to defend against it. Step 1: Remove Yourself from the Role of a Victim You may be confronted with a snide remark such as, “Are you always this absent-minded?”

How would you respond? Many of us would be caught in the moment and become defensive. Your best initial move is to remove yourself from the position of the “victim.” “Stupid? “Absent-minded? GUEST EDITORIAL - INSITE. Gerry Verrier is a friend. He is former addict, who for 25 years now has been involved with the Behavioural Health Foundation in Manitoba. He is currently the Program Director. This piece is also posted as a comment on my blog item of several days ago, called "Stranger in a Strange Land," but it is so darn good and so important, I wanted you to read it as a stand-alone editorial. I am a former addict that will stand up and say that I do not support Insite or needle exchange programs. And with all that, do you really think I'm going to start wearing condoms? I know some addicts and homeless people are struggling with mental health issues. Providing for addicts to continue to be addicted is anti-social. I had to laugh but felt like crying when I read on the International Harm Reduction Association website how the Reductionists were upset that abstention-based treatment programs were using the term "Harm Reduction" and that expecting addicts to quit using is not Harm Reduction.

Dr David Evans: Four fatal pieces of evidence. Dr David Evans lays out four crucial pieces of evidence, and calls for a debate with Prof Andrew Pitman. But the evidence is so unarguably strong for skeptics, we know that the name-calling-team-who-want-our-money will do anything to avoid a public debate. Global warming has become a scam. It has superficial plausibility. Many non-scientists think that proves the case, but it doesn’t. Here’s a clue: the world has been in a warming trend since 1680, the depth of the Little Ice Age. The theory of man-made global warming doesn’t stand up to even casual scrutiny. His perfect meal would involve something saucy, bright and rich with a bit of meat, falling over a dish of toothsome pasta. A good ragu is nearly a religious experience for him. It expresses the ultimate goodness of the world, a place where people feed one another good food in love and honesty. So when a fennel and sausage ragu at a local restaurant invoked this mystical moment, giving him a cross-eyed moment of pleasure, I felt that the gauntlet was thrown in my lap.

I also have strong feelings about ragu. And yet you do it with only a handful of ingredients. The fennel in this sauce stays a little firm, a little toothsome, and sweet and juicy. Like all ragus, this freezes to perfection; make this whole batch (it's big) and do that happy ragu dance in your kitchen, stirring the pot slowly and deliberately. And, yes, this beat my husband's dish of pasta at that restaurant. Sausage and Fennel Ragu Serves 8 generously. History-of-Sci-fi.jpg (JPEG Image, 4400x2364 pixels) Ophelia Dingbatter's News. Listening to Obama tell yet another whopper — that “the rich” pay lower tax rates than the serf class — I am reminded of Ronald Reagan’s oft-used line in debating Jimmy Carter in 1980 and Walter Mondale in 1984: “There you go again.”

BHO keeps insisting that “Warren Buffett’s secretary shouldn’t pay a higher tax rate than Warren Buffett. There is no justification for it. It is wrong that in the United States of America, a teacher or a nurse or a construction worker who earns $50,000 should pay higher tax rates than somebody pulling in $50 million.” Just the thought that the rich are getting away with keeping too much of their own money is enough to make the emotions of a welfare addict go off the envy chart, except for one small fact: It is, like most of what BHO says, a lie. The reality is that the wealthiest people in America not only pay a majority of the taxes in this country, they also pay at a higher tax rate. That being the case, Son of Saul is wrong x 2. Summer Peach and Balsamic Pizza.

To me, this is pizza. To Taylor, it’s flatbread. Fancy fruit-topped flatbread. Then again, I think anything without tomato sauce or pepperoni is flatbread in Taylor’s mind. But whatever you decide to call it, it’s delicious. The sweetness of the peach, the richness of the cheese, with bright and tart accents of basil and balsamic vinegar… yup. Good stuff. If you happened to have, say, 50 year old balsamic vinegar handy, it would be pretty spectacular. Summer Peach and Balsamic Pizza Ingredients:1 batch pizza dough (use your favorite recipe, or use mine here) 1 cup balsamic vinegar 2 tablespoons olive oil 8 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced or grated 2 ounces soft goat cheese, crumbled 4 peaches, pitted and thinly sliced 1/2 cup coarsely chopped basil Directions:To prepare the balsamic reduction, pour balsamic vinegar into a small saucepan, bring to a simmer over medium-high heat.

Can you help? With the advent of laptops and smart phones, wired internet is fast becoming a thing of the past. While it has not become obsolete completely, the widespread usage of Wi-Fi networks and the improvement in Wi-Fi technology has made it the de facto mode of internet connectivity in most homes and offices today.

In fact, windows also provides you with the option of creating an ad-hoc Wi-Fi network with internet connection sharing (ICS) enabled in order to use a wired connection with a desktop / laptop as a Wi-Fi router in order to connect other machines to the internet. One of the commonly faced problems while trying to get more computers onto the same network is that the password to the network has been misplaced and you do not know how to retrieve the password. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6 Food Rules You Should Break - Healthy Recipes. Physalia – A positive energy amphibious garden to clean European waterways. Physalia – A positive energy amphibious garden to clean European waterways Eco Factor: Renewable energy generating amphibious garden to clean waterways. The UN estimates that rising at the current rate, population will soar to about 9.2 billion in 2050. However, even today more than one billion people don’t have access to potable water and more than 3,000 people die every day due to the lack of clean drinking water. Vincent Callebaut Architects have come up with a solution in the form of a floating garden that is 100% self-sufficient in terms of energy.

Dubbed the Physalia, the amphibious garden is inspired by pneumatophorous called the “Physalia physalis,” which means “water bubble”. This aquatic system is a sum of nature and biotechnologies designed to navigate European rivers between the Danube and Volga, between Rhine and Guadalquivir, or also between Euphrates and Tiger.
