The EU Craft and SME Barometer builds on the results of surveys that are conducted by UEAPME member organisations twice or four times a year on about 30.000 crafts and SMEs in different regions all over Europe. At European level, we are able to provide data for size classes (micro, small and medium sized enterprises) and for four economic sectors (manufacturing, construction, business and personal services), which may show different developments over business cycles and may react differently to external effects.
This survey will be published twice a year ahead of the European Councils in Spring and Autumn and includes UEAPME’s SME Business Climate Index, which is calculated as the average of the current situation and the expectations about the next period and sums positive and neutral answers as regards the overall situation for the business.

The Government of India came out forcefully against ACTA this week in an intervention at the World Trade Organization. The India position, which may well reflect the views of other ACTA-excluded countries, demonstrates that ACTA is emerging as a contentious political issue that extends well beyond civil society and business groups concerned with the agreement. Countries excluded from the ACTA process have to come to recognize the serious threat it represents both substantively as well as for the future of multilateral organizations. This growing concern from countries such as India represents a major new pressure point on the ACTA discussions. The notion that ACTA countries could negotiate an agreement that would ultimately be used to pressure non-ACTA countries to conform without attracting opposition from those very countries was always unrealistic.

Tijdens een vragenhalfuurtje op Twitter heeft eurocommissaris Neelie Kroes het ACTA-verdrag verdedigd, maar ook genuanceerd. De eurocommissaris voor de Digitale Agenda organiseerde vanmiddag een vragensessie onder de hashtag #askneelie. Al snel kwam er kritiek op het ondertekenen door de EU van ACTA, het internationaal verdrag dat namaak en piraterij beter moet bestrijden.
Maar Kroes nuanceerde al snel de impact van ACTA. Daarbij benadrukte ze dat het voorstel nu wel moet worden aangenomen, wat aanvankelijk niet moest gebeuren. “Ik heb vanaf dag 1 beloofd om ACTA te verbeteren en het is verbeterd. Er zijn briefings gebeurd en er is nu een volledig debat in het Europees Parlement zoals het hoort te zijn", klinkt het. Niet alleen internet In antwoord op een andere ACTA-vraag antwoordde de eurocommissaris dat het verdrag ook niet enkel over online gaat. Verder liet Kroes weten dat een open internet en betere copyrightbescherming niet tegenstrijdig zijn. Neelie Kroes: ACTA gaat het niet halen. Media Eurocommissaris Neelie Kroes, met portefeuille ICT en Telecommunicatie, denkt dat het omstreden ACTA-verdrag er niet zal komen. Kroes sprak zich expliciet uit tegen het omstreden handelsverdrag dat het auteursrecht beter moet beschermen. “Maak je geen zorgen meer om ACTA”, zei ze. Volgens Kroes is het waarschijnlijk dat het verdrag van de baan zal worden geschoven als het Parlement erover stemt in juli. Europees Parlement zal ACTA niet voorleggen aan Hof van Justitie. Lees je in over de Europese Unie. Als er een land is die er veel aan heeft, is het Nederland. Wij zijn een handelsnatie, wij halen enorm veel voordeel uit de Europese Unie. Opzich heb je een punt je vergeet echter 1 cruciaal iets Nederland had al handels verdragen met de meeste landen binnen en buiten de EU voor 1985 ( Immers op 14 Juni 1985 is het oorspronkelijke Verdrag van Schengen is getekend ).
Dit verdrag bestond niet uit een handels verdrag maar uit een overeenkomst voor vrij personen verkeer tussen de landen, België, Nederland, Luxemburg, Duitsland en Frankrijk ) Dit is de basis geweest van de huidige EU zoals wij dit nu kennen, echter had dat niks te maken met onze handels positie in deze wereld immers sinds de VOC, hadden wij deze vedragen al. Hier zijn wij als land groot mee geworden in de handels wereld.
