The Eigenfactor® Score: Journal Impact, In Context. Following Citations Ad Infinitum To illustrate the concept, Bergstrom, West and colleagues invoke a hypothetical (and apparently immortal) researcher spending “all eternity” in the library, randomly following citations in scientific periodicals, selecting a citation in a given journal, consulting the cited journal, selecting another citation, and so on. Ultimately, as the process is repeated “ad infinitum,” the researcher’s pursuit will lead her more frequently to, as Bergstrom and colleagues observe, “journals that are highly cited by journals that are also highly cited.” The Eigenfactor Score represents the percentage of time the researcher would be directed to a given journal, thus providing a measure of the journal’s influence.

An Eigenfactor score of 2 for Nature, for example, indicates that the researcher would have spent 2 percent of her time tracking citations to that journal, whereas other journals might merit only (and literally) a fraction of that time. The Rights Registry: learning, sharing and growing | safenet. Work has been continuing on the SafeNet Rights Registry, with the database now containing entries for 178 publishers. Some of these publisher entries contain information on more than one policy, for example the NESLi2 publishers. We have just started testing the registry with libraries and the feedback has been very positive. Seedling. Kevin Doncaster, 2016. Available via Flickr – Attribution 2.0 Generic (CC BY 2.0) Finding Information on Publisher Policies Around 370 publishers have been identified from a number of sources, including: Publishers of journals which an (anonymised) UK university subscribes to.

In many cases, it has proved difficult to find policy statements on continuing and post-cancellation access on publisher’s websites. In order for a PCA policy to be actionable, as well as being up-to-date it needs to be explicit and not just implied. The details will allow you to create links to journal, books and articles that you can use on your own web site, in MyAthens panels or simply as bookmarks. Many of the URL constructions require elements of the URL to be URL-encoded. For a simple tool to encode or decode any URL, go to Note that a few of these links take the user to the correct journal or book, but do not go through OpenAthens authentication on the way. For these resources we have provided instructions on which links to click in order to trigger the resource into OpenAthens authentication. These are marked with a red asterisk *.
