Change Point Size and Leading in All Paragraph Styles. When designing a document, you may sometimes want to change the basic point size of text — for example, you may want to change your body text from 12pt to 11.5.
Or you may want to change the leading (the space between the lines): Say from 15pt to 14.5. The problem is that if the design is almost complete, such seemingly small changes can be time consuming. Why? Well, you may have 15 or 20 or more different paragraph styles that all need to be updated. But as a designer, you know that it is not just the point size and leading that needs to be changed: Often, there are other measurements in your paragraph styles that are based on the point size and leading. For instance: You have probably set the space before and after a block quote or bulleted list to be equals to the leading of the body text (say, 15 points spacing before, and 15 after). It can be time-consuming and error prone to manually change all these setting consistently throughout all your paragraph styles.
Technical Details. My scripts. Automating anchored object creation. Dynamic endnotes, column notes, margin notes. Several scripts here to manage footnotes: convert footnotes to (dynamic) endnotes or margin notes; convert footnotes to column-spanning footnotes; set footnotes in columns; inline notes; and managing the space between main text and ID's footnotes.
Convert footnotes to endnotes, column notes, or margin notes InDesign does just one type of note: footnotes (not counting what is called 'note' in InDesign, i.e. the sticky notes). This arsenal can be expanded by some scripts. Several scripts described here implement a method outlined by Peter Gold (in InDesign's user-to-user forum) and described in detail by Bob Bringhurst (see his blog; see also IndesignSecrets.com). The method is simple: create a paragraph style for the endnotes and enable numbering in it; create a character style that sets the format for the note references; and add a cross-reference format that defines just a paragraph's number. We offer you a wide array of scripts which cover many aspects of automating InDesign.
While these scripts are not as comprehensive or polished as our commercial products, many of them can be very useful and save a tremendous amount of time. These scripts represent a considerable effort on our part, and while we are offering them as free downloads, please consider making a donation. There is no greater incentive to continue offering free utilities such as these than a little monetary compensation.
Please visit our forum to learn more about scripting. This is a simple script to help make it easier to install scripts. This startup script adds a menu item which toggles adornments which show where text have style overrides. This startup script adds a menu item to your swatches panel that allows you to add hexadecimal swatches (among other cool things). Did you ever wish you could have numbered lines in InDesign? Here are two scripts which help with the tedious task of fitting text.
