Breakthrough: why MMR vaccine can give children febrile seizures

Until now, it was not known what triggered these seizures. Danish research has now shown that there are genetic reasons behind. (Photo: Shutterstock) Some children suffer from febrile seizures a few weeks after receiving the important MMR vaccine causing loss of consciousness and stiffening of the limps. This happens to one or two in a thousand children and can be an traumatic experience for both child and parents. A new Danish study shows that it is no coincidence which children experience this dramatic side effect.

"When it comes to public health it's enormously important for people to have faith in medicines. He believes, that the new knowledge can contribute to better vaccines in the future and more public trust. Extremely important study, says colleague Also, Thomsen entirely agrees with Feenstra that the result is important when it comes to growing scepticism about vaccines. A knock-in model of human epilepsy in Drosophila reveals a novel cellular mechanism associated with heat-induced seizure.

Considering Marriage and Preparing For Engagement

By Pastor Ron Jones, www.titusinstitute.com Is there is a relationship between demon possession and psychiatric diagnoses such as multiple personality disorder (usually seen in cases of incest or other abuse) or schizophrenia (where the person hears voices or is paranoid)? According to the Scriptures, problems of mental illness have only three possible origins. 1) It originates in the body. The Bible states that our bodies have been deeply affected by the fall and can create all kinds of physical problems. 2) It originates in the mind and heart. 3) It originates as a direct attack by a demon on unbelievers only.

The Scriptures recognize that all three sources can create mental and emotional problems. From all three the symptoms demonstrated externally (that is all we can see) may be similar because the mind is affected, but the source and cause are different. Each cause requires a different method to cure it. 1. 2. Discovery offers new treatment for epilepsy. New drugs derived from components of a specific diet used by children with severe, drug-resistant epilepsy could offer a new treatment, according to research published today in the journal Neuropharmacology.

Discovery offers new treatment for epilepsy

Scientists from Royal Holloway, in collaboration with University College London, have identified specific fatty acids that have potent antiepileptic effects, which could help control seizures in children and adults. The discovery could lead to the replacement of the ketogenic diet, which is often prescribed for children with severe drug-resistant epilepsy. The high fat, low carbohydrate diet is thought to mimic aspects of starvation by forcing the body to burn fats rather than carbohydrates. Although often effective, the diet has attracted criticism, as side effects can be significant and potentially lead to constipation, hypoglycaemia, retarded growth and bone fractures. The study tested a range of fatty acids found in the ketogenic diet against an established epilepsy treatment.

What Causes Epilepsy? From GABA to Zinc

In the United States, there are close to one million people with epilepsy-- about 1 in 200 people around the world have epilepsy(3). This is a review of the emerging insights into the mechanisms underlying the most common form of epilepsy, complex partial epilepsy(1). Terminology and Classification of Epileptic Seizures The term seizure refers to a transient alteration of behavior due to abnormal synchronized and repetitive bursts of firing of neurons in the central nervous system. Neural modeling helps expose epilepsy's triggers. A brain scan of a person experiencing an epileptic seizure looks like the Great Plains during an early evening in midsummer.

Fierce electrical storms pop up seemingly at random, proliferate over large areas and subside almost as quickly as they arose. The complex interplay of microscopic physical and biological effects that govern the strange dynamics of epileptic seizures has long remained a mystery to scientists and doctors who seek to comprehend and treat this common and often life-threatening condition. In order to enrich their understanding of why seizures occur and propagate, scientists at the U.S. Children and education : Epilepsy Society. Brain & Mind magazine: Epilepsy in Childhood.
