FotoFilmic.

Me gusta: "Photography is wandering in the universe by yourself" | Fotografia Magazine. Paris-based Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson presents Vagabondages, an exhibition of 128 photographs from Magnum Photos‘s collection by the great Chilean photographer Sergio Larrain (1931-2012). The exhibition will be open until 22 December. Following is a beautiful letter written by Sergio Larrain in 1982 to his nephew, who had previously asked Larrain where to begin to become a photographer. First and foremost, you have to have a camera that fits you well, one that you like, because it’s about feeling comfortable with what you have in your hands: the equipment is key to any profession, and it should have nothing more than the strictly necessary features.

Secondly, get yourself an enlarger, the easiest and most useful you can find (the smallest manufactured by LEITZ is the best for the 35mm format, it will last your whole lifetime). The game is going on an adventure, like a sailor boat: drop the sails. Bar, Valparaiso. Passage Bevestrello, Valparaiso. Photograph the way you like it. Gallery — Don't Take Pictures. A pinhole camera is a beautifully simple machine capable of rendering complex images. Photographers who choose to work with pinhole cameras are patient, often waiting minutes or hours or days for their images to be rendered through the pinprick in the front of their camera. More time still is spent processing the image, and due to the uncertainty of the camera and its many variables, the photograph may never appear at all.

When it does, the reward is tremendous. Few pinhole cameras are the same. Don’t Take Pictures strives to present photographers who are actively involved in the creative process of making photographs. Graduate Photography Online is Source's annual showcase for Photographersgraduating from University and Art College based photography courses. View Submission Guidelines for 2014 » Since the project's introduction in 2007 the majority of partcipating courses have been drawn from Colleges and Universities based in the UK and Ireland - though we have had courses from the USA and even Dubai take part. Each participating Photographer submits five images selected from their graduate work, accompanied by a paragraph of text outlining the intent of the work and their contact details.

Individual Photographers are indexed primarily according to the University and Course to which they belong and since 2010 we have also begun to index the work according to the photographic genre to which it belongs. As part of the project since 2008 we now also commission a number of prominent photography curators to select their favourite sets of work from all the material submitted. So You've Just Graduated with a Photography Degree. Now What?

Photography programs at colleges all over the country are holding graduation ceremonies this month, which means there are probably more than a few soon-to-be graduates asking themselves: Now what? How do I find work in the industry? How do I start a career? To help make the transition from college to work a little less daunting, we've compiled a list of recent stories that provide invaluable tips and advice about starting a career as a photographer. The advice comes from industry veterans, as well as PDN's 30 photographers, many of whom were photo students themselves not long ago. Together, these stories provide both inspiration and information--about resources, financial management, lessons they didn't learn in school (but wish the had), financial management, assisting, marketing and other topics that aspiring photographers need in order to start successful careers.

Lumen prints are made by taking sheets of unexposed black-and-white photo paper and placing objects or negatives on top as if you were going to make a photogram, but instead of using an enlarger you take the paper out into the sun.

The results will vary due to exposure times, density of photogram or negative, quality of light and, most importantly, the type of paper. Each paper will have a different color, depending on whether it was old or new, fiber or resin, and the manufacturer. According to an article by Jerry Burchfield (on www.freestylebiz.com), exposures can vary from half an hour to days and sometimes even months. © Barbara Dombach. A pesar de nacer en Albacete en noviembre 1940, Eugenio se considera malagueño. Con pocos años de edad sus padres decidieron trasladarse a Málaga en busca de un clima más cálido.

Ono Field by James K Lowe. /Soho, New York City. I recently attended a small lecture on what it is to work in the creative field in New Zealand vs the rest of the world. While I didn’t feel all responses were entirely honest (some more than others) it definitely provoked thought into my own situation. In the talk they mentioned no review here ever being the 100% truth. This city is too small without damaging your own career in having a truthful opinion- so take this for what it is, just my opinion (as blunt as it may be). What came in conversation amongst us after the event is that we, (‘we’ being the ones who are wanting to get out of here), in New Zealand treat this place like a stepping stone. Is making it in New Zealand really.. making it? We all return home under different circumstances. What I am failing to mention is New Zealand in itself could be perfect for those who call it home. Begs the question, are we just big fish in a small pond? +keep reading. Home. Local Darkroom - Registration.

Rachel Sokal - alternative photography: • Welcome. Ultimate Exposure Computer. Imagine an exposure computer so advanced that it uses your eyes as a sensor. The processing unit is as powerful as your brain. The computer is accurate over a light range from reflected starlight through the light produced in a hydrogen fusion reaction. This computer weighs nothing and operates without batteries. It comes with instructions to allow you to implant the capabilities of the computer directly into your own memory so you can accurately judge a correct exposure by simply looking at the type of light that the subject is in. Everything I've said above is true. The fact is that the concept of photographic exposure is extremely simple.

We are a group of emerging artists who have set up a not-for-profit photographic darkroom as a community interest company in New Cross Gate, London SE14, just round the corner from Goldsmiths College. The Gate Darkroom is aimed at budding artists, photographers, students and all who wish to work with black & white darkroom photographic processes in a communal & supportive environment.

The facilities consist of a cutting & viewing studio and a darkroom, all on ground floor level. The darkroom has four bench mounted enlargers for black & white printing, from 35mm to 5×4 inches. There are three Durst enlargers and a De Vere 504 with a Multigrade 500 head. Paper developing is done in trays with chemicals provided, taking up to 20 x 24 inch paper. We want to make the darkroom as accessible as possible and keep the operational costs as low as we can. It is also possible to use the darkroom on a less regular basis, so long as a member is present to help set up and lock up afterwards. Double Negative Darkroom. Photography resources in London: the cheap lab near Shoreditch High Street – UPDATED | It's beautiful here, isn't it?

I still shoot film because I love it, but it so damn expensive to get it developed and scanned in London! I’m trying to force kindly convince my lovely uncles to team up and buy me a decent flatbed film scanner as a graduation present, but till then I’m pretty much dependent on photography labs. I have to thank Ruvan (see this post to read about him) if I haven’t gone bankrupt while snapping freely with my Olympus Mju, because he showed me this lovely (and cheap!) Place that used to be located close to Brick Lane, but has since moved to Bethnal Green road: Eye Culture.

The owner is a film lover and the prices are quite low (at least for London). They’re quite quick and they develop C-41 in the store (both 35mm and 120), but they send the BW to a professional lab near Old street, so it takes a bit longer. They don’t develop slides (E6 process), but they’re happy to cross process them for you at the same price. Anyway they develop both 35mm and 120 films and they scan on CD on request.
