The objective of the program is to provide outstanding young professionals who hold a Bachelor of Architecture or Master of Architecture degree the opportunity to enter into an intensive, postgraduate study that encourages critical thought in the context of design speculation. The program is viewed as a framework in which both academic and professional concerns are explored.

It combines urban geography, economic geography, urban and regional planning, and urban sociology. The programme takes two years, and consists of a core introductory course, a number of core research methodology coursesa thesis seminar,a research apprenticeship, one methodology elective, an exchange semester abroad combined with a case study (fieldwork) abroad, a case study (fieldwork) in the Netherlands,and is concluded with a written thesis or a research article. Students are expected to obtain 60 EC credits in each year of the programme, totalling 120 EC.
