Supyo: Is Shawn Fanning still involved with Path (startup)? If not, why. Shawnfanning (shawnfanning) Shawn Fanning. Shawn Fanning (born November 22, 1980) is an American computer programmer, serial entrepreneur, and angel investor. He developed Napster, one of the first popular peer-to-peer ("P2P") file sharing platforms, in 1998. The popularity of Napster was widespread and Fanning was featured on the cover of Time magazine.[2] The site in its initial free P2P incarnation was shut down in 2001 after the company's unsuccessful appeal of court orders arising from its encouraging the illegal sharing of copyrighted material.

A paid subscription version of the site followed, and was purchased by Rhapsody on December 1, 2011. Following his involvement with Napster, he joined, and invested in, a number of early-stage technology startup companies. Early life[edit] Fanning was born in Brockton, Massachusetts, the son of Coleen Fanning and Joe Rando.[3] He then moved to Harwich, Massachusetts on Cape Cod, and graduated from Harwich High School in 1998. Dave Morin | Most Creative People 2010. First Peek at Path.io: Stealth Startup From Facebook's Dave Morin & Sean Fanning of Napster. Three weeks ago Facebook Platform Manager Dave Morin announced he was leaving the company to start a stealthy new startup with Napster founder Sean Fanning.

The new company is called Path and you can sign up to request access to the closed beta at Path.io. Unfortunately, someone forgot to tell Google that the new company was in hiding and so tonight we have a fair amount of information about what these internet veterans are up to, courtesy of Google's cache of the otherwise locked-up site. The company describes itself as "a tool that facilitates the creation, sharing and correlation of lists. " List creation is nothing new, but that's not a problem. When world-class social technologists tackle an age-old problem, the results can be quite interesting.

Check out what this team has developed so far. The site so far is a list of lists. It looks pretty basic so far, but there's a long list of beta users who have created lists titled "Features that Path needs to add. Matt Van Horn, business development director at social-news site Digg, is departing for Path--the ultra-stealthy start-up co-founded by former Facebook executive Dave Morin and Napster co-founder Shawn Fanning . Van Horn's departure comes right after Digg rolled out its much-hyped "Version 4" revamp to the general public. Van Horn was a hardcore Digg loyalist, something that comes across in a note he sent to colleagues Thursday announcing the job change.

"When I graduated college in 2006, it was a crazy dream to move to the Bay Area and join a tech start-up. So I took it upon myself to stalk Kevin [Rose] and crew repeatedly until they created a position for me," he wrote. "It's now been more than three years since I started here and I have learned so much and am so grateful for the chance that everyone took in bringing me on board. "I used to work with Dave [Morin] at Apple and I'm excited to be working with him on this new project," Van Horn's message continued.

Dave Morin leaves Facebook to join Napster creator Fanning on new venture.
