Peut-être l’un des tout meilleurs de l’année, comme nous l’évoquions déjà au mois de mai dans nos colonnes. Surtout, avec The Ballad of the Costa Concordia, il comporte le meilleur titre de ce cru 2016. Pourtant, rien n’était joué d’avance. Placé en dixième position (sur douze), ce morceau débute cinquante minutes après le Fill In The Blank introductif. L’auditeur est médusé, ne se lasse jamais des contrepieds, et peut donc sereinement appréhender l’écoute de ces cinquante premières minutes.
Commençons par présenter ledit titre, de manière somme toute assez scolaire, mais essentielle. 0’00 : Le morceau débute avec une batterie et un chant résigné. 1’27 : Premier break. 2’04 : Les premiers vents s’invitent, marquant une forme de mélancolie qui nous ramènerait presque sur les rives du Mississippi. 4’28 : On retrouve une forme plus minimaliste, la batterie est plus discrète, les accords de guitare électrique également. 10. 9. 8. 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2. John ‘Patrick’ Byrne « Vinyl Revolutions Blog. This post was somewhat inspired by a “double Nellis” Twitter conversation this week, after posting the video to ‘The Humblebums’ song, ‘Patrick’. After a brief discussion about artwork, I decided to share some of it here. The song ‘Patrick’ was written about the Scottish artist, John Byrne who following unsuccessful experiences with London galleries released a series of works under the pseudonym of “Patrick”, that he claimed were created by his father.
He designed the album covers for artists such as The Beatles, Donovan, Gerry Rafferty, and of course The Humblebums. He was born in Paisley, in 1940 and several of his paintings hang in The Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh – including portraits of Robbie Coltrane, Billy Connolly, Tilda Swinton (the mother of his children), and a self-portrait. The LP cover above was the first of John Byrne’s artwork that I came across, back when Matt was trying to woo me! The man himself, John Patrick Byrne: Like this: Like Loading...
