I was honored but also a little terrified. They met on starmen.net, an EarthBound fan site, which is also where I met my husband 10 years ago. This was my first attempt at sculpting realistic people. I tried to plan as carefully as I could, so I started with an armature and built up layers between bakes. The sculpting took 12 days. Without paint these faces look a little scary. However this freakish weather is making it more tolerable than normal. New Year.....Resolve? Since it is January and I've been surrounded by movement and large changes for six weeks, I've had many occasions (while being away from this computer and the work I love to do..) to ponder the word resolve.

New Year.....Resolve?

A word with many subtle variations of meaning, I do find. I'm going slowly with picking up the strings in the new year, and there seem to be many of them hanging loose, some requiring massive repairs and others dangling in front of me pointing in different exciting directions. To the point where I have been overwhelmed. But...a small creative task per day slipped in with the others that must be done is the right path. Since I am surrounded by music every day (both kids play in various groups and orchestras, bassoon and violin) I took particular note of the musical meaning of resolve: 'to progress from a dissonance to a consonance.' Tree Wings Studio: Happy Returns ~ 52 Earrings: week 7

They were preceded by three other attempts. These new earrings were one of them. The polymer beads started out as a not-so-nice olive green. They weren't even baked when I gave up on them. It was almost dark out so I just hurried through my bead stash and more or less threw the Mystique earrings together and snapped a photo right at sunset. The sad, ugly green beads went into the oven later... Beach Hut Beads. Half Term is now over and the Children are back at School!

More time to clay!!! We had a quiet week, maybe a little too quiet....Logan was excited to be going back to school today! That has to be a first! So, after a somewhat frustrating Sunday, one of those days when I have time to experiment, time to play.......nothing would happen. I spent about 2 hours just staring into space waiting for my fickle muse to come up with something and then gave it up as a bad job and had a long hot soak in the tub instead (a chilled glass of white wine helped of course!). And then today, just when I was getting no ideas yet again, lo and behold, muse decided to put in an appearance - I am so glad she did!!

A few years ago, a group of friends invited me to a party. They were going to spend a few hours playing with something called "Fimo" - some sort of colored clay.

"You can do really neat things with it," they said. "We'll make some beads," they said. "It's completely cool,", they said. "No, we can't explain it any better than that - you have to actually see it in action," they said. A few hours, and I was undone. Most of my jewelry work now is done in polymer clay. And then, of course, there's the pure childish fun of playing with it. Polymer clay is, as the name implies, a pliable, blendable polymer compound for artists and crafters.

When fired, the clay gets hard enough to make durable objects, and can be finished in various ways to obtain textures from glassy to stonelike. Since the color is inherent in the particles, you can combine two or more colors together without blending them, if you prefer, for special effects such as Italian milefiori (originally a glasswork technique). With so many fashion colours this season I decided to play a bit with colour and made some recipes for the popular Pantone Spring 2011 Fashion Colours. Here is a chart of these 10 popular colours and my interpretation. While these colours vary from monitor to monitor they are probably not quite accurate because when you tilt your computer screen the colour changes as well. Also my photography lighting makes a difference also as my silver in the photo looks slightly more blue than it really is.
