Philips 212 - Cartridge questions

Or did it not clearly state how to attach the cartridge? The cartridge gets finish mounted to the headshell which is then just slid into the tonearm. I asked about the correct positioning of the stylus since I didn't have the alignment gauge and got the numbers recently. These numbers were the distance from the front of the headshell to the needle and from the mounting surface of the headshell to the needle. If you are using a protractor, you don't need the alignment numbers. The protractors, I'm guessing you would use the Baerwald, with two null points. The cartridge needs to be adjusted so that it is perpendicular on both sets of cross hairs.

This topology allows a unique application of smaller inductors that yields an ergonomic approach to LCR (L=Inductor, C=Capacitor, R=Resistor) phonograph reproduction. Vinyl minded audiophiles are growing in numbers with collectable, vintage releases often bettering the best digital formats and new vinyl issues being added to catalogs with increasing frequency. It is known by many in the audio community that LCR RIAA correction is a preferred way of capturing the experience and atmosphere of the original performance. The passive LCR network is a topology that brings out the detail of small instrument inflections yet keeps a musical cohesiveness in context of the performance and room. Advanced hi-speed op-amps allow for transformerless direct drive of the LCR network.

The LT1358 op-amp is still made in a through-hole package allowing this preamp to be made with no surface mount parts. Lounge Audio mkIII LCR Phono Preamplifier - New Record Day. Back in 2012 I read a review by Tone Audio Magazine that celebrated in an earlier version of the Lounge.

Lounge Audio mkIII LCR Phono Preamplifier - New Record Day

The truth is, that review was enough to make me wonder just how good this little preamp could be and with the improvements that Robert Morin has made in the mark III design, that curiosity turned into an email and a review unit waiting patiently on my doorstep. Besides, for $300 bucks and never hearing an LCR equalization network, I knew this was going to be interesting. For those new to the phonograph game, welcome aboard and let me briefly explain some basics before we continue. Rega Planar 3 - If I buy a used one - what should be done? - Vinyl Engine. Vinyl. U-Turn Audio. VPI Industries Inc. VPI HW-16.5 Record Cleaning Machine Improvements. IntroductionI finally got tired of hand washing and hand vacuuming my records and decided to invest in a reliable and well engineered commercial RCM rather than make my own.

VPI HW-16.5 Record Cleaning Machine Improvements

VPI RCM's are always available on the used market at very attractive prices. However, a new unit was purchased to avoid the risk of getting one that was formerly owned by a nightclub DJ and thus one day away from being completely worn out.;)The HW-16.5's cabinet is solidly built of 1/2" thick MDF which is clad in a tough black vinyl. The turntable compartment cover is 1/4" thick clear Plexiglas. The vacuum and turntable motors are heavy duty, professional grade units. Figure 12. VPI Scout config. There are other reasons for occasional to frequent adjustment of azimuth and or tracking force, the two cartridge settings assisted by the CI ring. The need for precision in these areas is documented elsewhere all over the web, and need not be addressed in this thread. I think we can all agree that no turntable can sound its best when either setting is off. Based on the sheer volume of information out there, there should be no doubt that they are critical to get the best sound from a system as well as extending cartridge and record life.

I agree with you that azimuth should not need correction more often than when changing cartridges on the wand, but only to the extent that is stable and does not change once set. This is especially so because setting azimuth properly can be one of the hardest, most repetitive and aggravating adjustments on any system. Why would anyone want to frequently change the tracking force, especially when it puts your hard-won azimuth adjustment at risk? 1. 2. 3.

Empire. Cartridge / Arm Matching. Cartridge / Arm Matching....or things you didn't really want to know about resonant frequency of a system tonearm/cartridge which is coupled to the record by the compliance of the cantilever suspension. ... above photo #1: showing the cantilever and location of suspension.

Cartridge / Arm Matching

The suspension element may be as simple as a tight fitting elastic grommet that grips both the shaft and the cartridge body. above photo #2: Showing stylus mounting in the cantilever. This is a nude mounting that features a precise 'force fit' between stylus body and the bore in the cantilever. Additionally, a small bit of adhesive is applied over the joint to ensure a lasting fit. side note: Whoever said "diamonds are forever" was not referring to phono cartridge stylii. Matching a cartridge to a tonearm (pivoting tone arms) Tonearm/Cartridge Capability. For best performance, the tonearm and cartridge must be matched.

Tonearm/Cartridge Capability

All cartridges will not work with all tonearms, and vice versa. To insure a proper match, one must be aware of the mechanical specifications of both the arm and phono cartridge. To see how these characteristics interact and determine compatibility, we must first understand the dynamics of the relationship. Any cartridge/tonearm combination will exhibit resonance at a specific frequency (or frequencies). Vinyl Engine.
