. « I think Facebook just announced RDFa support (the Open Graph Protocol) at F8: #rdfa #html5 #f8 (look at the attributes) » Voilà, c'est fait.

Advantages and Myths of RDF

Many wonder why it has not happened earlier; and some observe progress has still been too slow. But what is often overlooked is the foundational role of RDF — the Resource Description Framework. From my own perspective focused on the issues of data interoperability and data federation, RDF is the single most important factor in today’s advances. Sure, there have been other models and other formulations, but I think we now see the Goldilocks “just right” combination of expressiveness and simplicity to power the foreseeable future of data interoperability. So, on this 10th anniversary of the birth of RDF [1], I’d like to re-visit and update some much dated discussions regarding the advantages of RDF, and more directly address some of the mis-perceptions and myths that have grown up around this most useful framework.

Semantic Search: The Myth and Reality - ReadWriteWeb

Any technology that stands a chance to dethrone Google is of great interest to all of us, particularly one that takes advantage of long-awaited and much-hyped semantic technologies. But no matter how much progress has been made, most of us are still underwhelmed by the results. In head-to-head comparisons with Google, the results have not come out much different. What are we doing wrong? For example, when asked, What is the capital of France? The mistake is that semantic search engines present us with Google-like search box and allow us to enter free form queries. What Problem Are We Trying to Solve? The first confusion in the space comes from the fact that semantic search is being positioned as the answer to all possible problems - from modern search, currently dominated by Google, to problems that are computationally impossible.

As shown in the diagram above basic queries are easily handled by Google. Ideas to Markets: Will We Convey the Meaning of Semantics? The semantic web for publishers and bloggers. The semantic web is often referred to as the “next phase” of the world wide web.

It’s also sometimes referred to — perhaps pretentiously — as “Web 3.0″. Wrapped up in this semantic web is an appearance of artificial intelligence as it involves computers “understanding” content (eg: teaching a machine that “Africa” is a continent and that “Barack Obama” is person and politician). Semantic tagging for dummies Adding semantic power to your website content essentially involves adding machine-readable metadata to your articles or posts that denote relationships and meaning.

This could involve tagging your content according to various categories, such as certain words in an article referring to people, places, companies and/or types of technologies. This metadata could appear as a database field or XML RSS attached to the content. Easy RDF and SPARQL for LAMP systems - ARC RDF Classes for PHP. Written up by ZDNet's Oliver Marks, the video Huynh recorded demonstrating Parallax (below) will knock your socks off. Unfortunately, actually using Parallax demonstrates just how far from solid Freebase, one of the semantic web's poster children, really is. The idea is to allow you to apply multiple filters for your searches and embed live charts in a blog. It's a beautiful idea, check out the video. Here's the video below, if you find yourself saying "get to the point already," then skip to about 1:30 in the timeline.
