Braided Dupioni Silk Necklace Craft. Stephanie's Sewn Felt Slippers - Martha Stewart Holiday & Seasonal Crafts. Life As Lou :: Magic Boxes: A Life As Lou Online Class :: January :: 2008. Due to popular demand, I am doing a tutorial on the Magic Boxes I showed off in some previous posts. To begin, choose your paper. You need six sheets of matching paper (preferably a heavier weight). Choose one for your outside, budgeting for a contrasting one for your lid, and 4 to create the inside boxes. Cut as follows (all measurement are in inches): Outside: 6 x 11 3/4ths Lid: 8.5 x 8.5 4 inner boxes: 8 x 8 The only challenging part of this project is creating the lid and inside compartments. 1. 2. fold the tips of your paper in so that they meet at the center.
Fold in all four sides, and then unfold. 3. This fold gives you the sides of your box. 4. I have also colored four triangles. 5. 6. Do the same thing on the other side. 7. Repeat this process on your 8 inch and 8.5 inch papers. Now for the outside. 1. 2. To put the boxes in, first adhere one to the very top right corner, making certain that you are flush with the corner of the outside paper. Here are a few that I’ve made. HANDMADE PAPER ARTS. Posted by: otilrotcod on Sep 16, 2011 Tagged in: Untagged STEP 1 (SOAKING OF PAPER) Soak paper in a DEEP CONTAINER. Make sure that the paper is fully soaked for quick pulping. STEP 2 (PULPING OF PAPER) There are 2 ways to PULP paper- By OSTERIZER or By HAND(Manually) Once you achieved its claylike pulpiness make sure that any traces of its original form(paper) is gone and that pulped paper was formed.
STEP 3 PREPARE A PLYWOOD AS BASE FOR YOUR CREATION. STEP 4 (DRYING AND SMOOTHING) Just let your pulped creation dry under the sun. STEP 5 (BASE PAINTING) After your design has been smoothen. STEP 6 (PAINTING AND EMBELLISHING) Paint your design. STEP 7 (FRAMING) This would depend whether you wish to frame your work of art. How-to: Ikat pattern. Recycled Geometric Light. This isn’t so much a DIY project complete with tons of instructions so much as it is a jaw-dropping example of what you can do when you grab a bunch of repurposed trash and really put your mind to it.
If you can follow these photos well enough to replicate this stunning light, more to you. We kind of just wanted to blog about it to highlight what a modern idea it is. From Yanko Design (they explain it really well): “Designer Ed Chew takes a green step in the right direction with the TetraBox lamp, a light object made from discarded drink packets that would have otherwise ended up in landfills already packed to the brim. The design is achieved by unfolding the packets and refolding them into hexagonal and pentagonal sections that are then pieced together to form a geodesic sphere or any other desired shape.
Here, the Epcot-like ball makes an attractive overhead light and casts an impressive web of shadows and shapes on the surrounding space.” Whoa. What do you think? Images: Yanko Design. My sister-in-law is getting married in August. So this week we went wedding dress shopping (fun!) And bridesmaid dress shopping (not-so-fun). I’d rather do most of my wedding shopping while browsing the internet.
So, in honor of my sister-in-law’s upcoming wedding (and a promise I made in 2009 that I’d write this post) here are 1. Source: etsy.com via ohAmanda {impress your kids} on Pinterest 2. I was walking through Target a few weeks ago and noticed this little knit fabric headband that was not just braided together…….but woven. I decided they were charging way too much for something that could be made with t-shirt scraps. And that means free. So there you have it. A nice and easy project to give my bad-hair-day head some love.
(Or you may need one for working out. I kinda love it on my little girl . She always has little hair fly-aways that get into her face…….and this helps with that problem. It even works great with her hair down…..and keeps that hair tucked behind her ears. And yep, good for me too. Thanks little t-shirt scraps. Want to make your own? First, find some old t-shirts. Then, cut your fabric into long strips. Next, stack your 5 strips on top of each other and sew together at one end. Now, pull on each strip of fabric so that they kind of curl on the edges.
But let me explain a little better. First, you’ll work on the left side. And that’s it. This post is sponsored by: Scratch-Off Save-the-Date How-To. You won the lottery when you found each other, so send this cheeky save-the-date card to let guests share in your luck.

Make-up Magnet Board. We all know with craft blogs that original ideas are often hard to come by, we find ideas we love and make them our own but we didn't come up with the idea ourselves. I feel like I've finally done something original here and I'm excited about it. I'll show you the finished product and then explain.
Behold my Make-up Magnet Board. I have a friend who is beautiful and stylish and has always loved make-up but recently took a course that intensified her love. Her renewed interest has worn off on me and it made me remember eye shadows I'd hidden away that were gathering dust. The basket was a mess and I was overwhelmed with all my choices never knowing what to use, digging through to see what I had and find what I wanted was a pain.
I painted it (The hard way, with a brush instead of spray paint. I went to the hardware store and picked up some metal and had them cut it to fit inside my frame. Here comes the brilliant part though. Next I wanted a place to store my brushes and liners though. Scarf Necklace Black & Pink Seminole Scarflace by natureasmuse. Hand Embroidery Tutorials. Wood Macbook Pro & iPad 2 Cases by Blackbox Case — Make a wood wedding ring with 2 hours and $30. Posted by Lance Atkins on February 01, 2011 3 Comments Hi. It's Lance here. I may or may not be getting married this summer. So I made a wood wedding ring because wearing a tungsten ring would be like selling my soul to the devil.
Make one yourself: This one is made out of birdseye maple, but you could use any sort of wood. After the super glue has dried, sand down the small tab of wood sticking off the ring. Take your strip of wood and soak it in hot water for about 10 minutes until saturated and pliable. Once the glue is on, snugly wind up the wood strip around the ring.
Let it set for an hour, then attack it with some sandpaper until you get your desired shape. I got married June 3 to the most wonderful girl. So, we're not selling rings at the time (but with all your requests we might have to) but we do make really excellent wood cases for Apple products. Mixed Media Nail California by AsULikeIt. The Crocheted Scrunchie Tutorial! Make sure the tail of the yarn is on the inside of the hair band and the working yarn is on the outside. Start a single crochet by slipping your hook under the band and pulling the yarn up to the top then through the loop securing it to the hair band. Like so. Continue crocheting around the hair band. You may need to slide the stitches down to cover the band. When you get to the end, join the last stitch to the first.
Like so. Now you get to be creative with your stitch pattern. Then skipped one and single crocheted in the next stitch. I continued that pattern until I reached the end the secured the last stitch with a slip stitch in the first chain. Wa lah! Here are a few I've finished. Here's another way I was playing with the look. Then single chained the top stitch. This is the way it will look. Gata Valiquíria's necklace. An Altered Renaissance. A Cheap Dye Job. A favorite pair of jeans is like … a favorite pair of jeans. Really, once you’ve broken in a pair that fits your backside to perfection, they really are an irreplaceable treasure. I was switching out my winter and spring wardrobe the other day and pulled out my most favorite pair of summer capris I’ve ever owned.
Ever. I confess I’ve even fallen asleep in them a few times, they’re that comfortable, and I don’t ever say that about denim. I’m more of a lover of yoga pants, but these denim capris have the perfect amount of stretch and softness. I’ve washed them a zillion times and they were showing it. Meet my beloved crop denim jeans in their saddest state. Notice the excessively deep crouch lines. No, I did not say crotch, I said crouch. I simply could never part with these jeans because they fit me so well, but mostly because this pair tells me two things I want to hear every single day of my life and it’s written right on the Jolt tag. “Live Your Own Dream, Follow Your Heart” and. Make a Custom Pair of Tap Pants.
By Haley Pierson-Cox For me, summer in NYC means two things: 1) I will eventually wear a light skirt into the subway when my hands are full, and 2) on that day, when I step onto the stairs of the station, a gust of wind will come barreling up from below, lifting my skirt and showing my backside to anyone who cares to look. This year, on the very first nice day, my skirt flew up not once, but twice. In the same commute. Grumbling and scrambling to pull it down, it hit me: I definitely needed a pair of tap pants. In case you’re not familiar, tap pants work like a slip, but they’re actually shorts, making them the perfect solution to my summer skirt woes.
I’m pretty sure that every gal with a skirt and the chance of a breeze needs a pair! Materials: Directions Step 1: Create the front pattern To get started, use a measuring tape to take the following measurements. Step 3: Cut out your pattern pieces and arrange them on fabric that has been folded in half with right sides facing. Related. Free Collage Sheets. Found some free collage sheets on flickr. Okay, I'm partial, but I think this is one of the greatest makeovers of a men's dress shirt into something else--a cute, springy skirt! I had so much fun with this and just figured it out as I went along, but I do have the pics and instructions for you in a tutorial. Follow along if you ever want to do this to an old shirt! Do note--I'm using a 100% cotton chambray shirt here.
It's really sturdy and thick. This wouldn't work well with a finer dress shirt, unless you lined it, and even then, I don't recommend it. It won't lay right and will look weird. I started out with this shirt from Goodwill Outlet. I grabbed a skirt from my closet to use as a pattern. Cut off the collar and back yoke--basically cut in a horizonal line, as high up as you can comfortably do it.
Press the center back pleat out flat and mark your centers. To cut the back out, lay your shirt out with the center back becoming the fold of the fabric. For the front, lay the shirt front out flat and put the skirt on top. Ta-da! How to Make Beautiful Beads From Recycled Newspaper - A Storybook Life.
