"We shall continue our commitment to working tirelessly to open up more investment opportunities in all sectors for more direct foreign investments," he said. It should be recalled that on the 30th October 2012, Central Equatoria State Government and the China Jiangsu Company Limited signed an investment agreement for implementation of a number of investment projects across the State. "It is my wish that China Jiangsu will implement all these projects and many others. I would like to assure Guo the President of China Jiangsu and the group of our complete support and cooperation in the fulfilment of their endeavour," the governor said. Afrikadit - Building South Sudan. South Sudan Announces Plan to Build Highway Linking to Kenya. South Sudan has a massive infrastructure deficit South Sudan’s minister of Roads and Bridges, Gier Chuang Aluong, has announced the government’s plan to connect South Sudan and the neighbouring Kenya with a highway in order to boost economic activities between the two nations.
The highway, he told the press on Saturday, will connect Juba, the new country’s capital, and Nadipal at the two countries’ common border. Aluong further explained the importance of the project, saying it will be “economically viable” and boost economic activities as commodities shall be ferried from the Kenyan port of Mombasa into South Sudan in big volumes and short period. Currently South Sudan is a consumer country which exports almost nothing to the outside world besides the oil and imports almost every commodity including agricultural produces and livestock for meat from the neighbouring countries. Road-starved S.Sudan eyes $4bn road network - Economy - Business. Road-starved S.Sudan eyes $4bn road network Buoyed by oil deal with Khartoum, Africa's newest nation is planning road links with both its northern neighbour and Kenya Reuters, Friday 10 Aug 2012 It has virtually no roads and its economy is in tatters but South Sudan said on Thursday it plans to spend up to $4 billion in the next decade on building itself a 7,000 km road network.
Buoyed by his government recently sealing an oil deal with neighbouring Sudan, Roads and Bridges Minister Gier Chuang Aluong told Reuters the new road network would link his country - Africa's newest nation - to both Sudan and Kenya. South Sudan, a country which stretches across almost 240,000 square miles, has only 300 km (186 miles) of paved roads and most of the country is linked only by dirt tracks which are impassable during the summer rain season.
"As we talk today, some states are getting cut off because of the rains," Aluong told Reuters in his Juba office, underlining the scale of the challenge ahead. South Sudan's Oil Pipeline Construction Will Commence Soon. Juba — South Sudan may soon see commencement of implementation of an alternative vital joint oil pipeline project with Kenya that would transport the new nation's crude oil to the international market and revive its staggering economy.
South Sudan shut down its oil production last January accusing its northern neighbor, Sudan, of stealing its oil which passed through Sudan's pipelines to its Red Sea Port. Khartoum justified the action, arguing that the new nation which broke away from it in July 2011 had not been paying transit fee. The two sides have not reached an agreement on how much the transit fee should be as Khartoum asked for $36 a barrel while Juba offered over half a dollar per barrel, arguing that this was in accordance with the international practice.
South Sudan has exerted efforts to build an alternative oil pipeline through East Africa to the Indian Ocean and had recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kenya to build the pipeline.
