These 4 Koch-Funded Congressmen Are Behind the Bill to Abolish the EPA

Matt Gaetz turned heads when he introduced a bill on Feb. 3 to "completely abolish" the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). "Today, the American people are drowning in rules and regulations promulgated by unelected bureaucrats," Gaetz told fellow GOP lawmakers in an email reported by the Huffington Post "and the Environmental Protection Agency has become an extraordinary offender. " Rep. And like Pruitt, Rep. The four GOP representatives have raked in campaign cash from some of the biggest corporations peddling fossil fuels, including Koch Industries, Duke Energy, Chevron and ExxonMobil. Over their careers, these legislators appear to have responded in kind, pushing legislation favored by the industries reliant on fossil fuels. Rep. Since 2010, Gaetz's political campaigns have received $28,000 directly from fossil fuel companies and energy utilities, according to data compiled by the National Institute on Money in State Politics.

Rep. Rep. Republicans Give the Kochs and Big Oil Billions Annually To Export Domestic Oil. Only a person who has been comatose over the past couple of decades is unaware that there are no lengths too far for Republicans to go to provide profits for the oil industry at the expense of the American people; both economically and health-wise.

Republicans Give the Kochs and Big Oil Billions Annually To Export Domestic Oil

It is just what they exist to do and they are at it again. Republicans are wont to claim that America’s energy independence is their primary concern to prevent providing the Middle East with oil profits from American consumers, but they are a day away from making America much less energy independent and the oil industry billions more in profits. As is their typical practice, Republicans are inserting a “rider” in the omnibus spending bill that eliminates the ban on American oil exports that was developed specifically to protect American consumers financially and strengthen America’s energy independence; it was also a means of protecting the environment.

“Big Oil is going to get $22 billion in profits annually because of this. ExxonMobil Defies Kochs - Warns Governments Must Intervene To Prevent Climate Catastrophe. While many Americans are stocking up on guns and ammunition to kill other Americans of the “wrong” religion, or the “wrong” sexual orientation, or “all the wrong” races, they are sleeping through the second greatest threat to their existence after the Republican Party.

ExxonMobil Defies Kochs - Warns Governments Must Intervene To Prevent Climate Catastrophe

Of course, part and parcel of Americans’ ignorance of and opposition to four decades-old data warning that man-made carbon emissions pose the greatest economic and national security threat to Americans is the oil industry’s deceit in pursuit of profits. A significant reason Americans dismiss the impending climate catastrophe is due to being cognitively incapable of connecting historic droughts, severe storms, deadly flooding, and wildfires to climate scientists warnings about historic droughts, severe storms, deadly flooding and increasingly intense wildfires due to carbon emissions.

Koch Industries takes aim at US House Republican tax reform plan

REUTERS/Handout Koch Industries, the private conglomerate owned by billionaire conservatives Charles and David Koch, warned on Wednesday that a Republican tax reform proposal meant to encourage U.S. exports could have devastating effects on the economy and consumers. The proposal, known as border adjustability, is part of a larger tax reform plan backed by Republicans in the House of Representatives, including Speaker Paul Ryan.

It has attracted the attention of advisers to President-elect Donald Trump as a potential tool for creating manufacturing jobs for blue-collar Americans. But the provision, which would tax imports while exempting U.S. exports from corporate income tax, has raised concerns in the retailing and energy sectors about its potential effects on prices for imported consumer items and foreign goods used in domestic production. Not a privilege. Unfortunately, a predominantly poor, black community north of Detroit, Michigan lost that right when people in power prioritized short-cuts and special interests over basic survival needs of the people they are supposed to serve. What happened to Flint’s drinking water is just the most recent example of people in power trampling over the rights of those without that power.

The Koch brothers’ hidden election gambit: Just because the multibillionaires didn’t back a presidential candidate they were hardly idle

While the brothers are infamous for funneling hundreds of millions of campaign dollars to presidential, congressional and gubernatorial politicos willing to embrace their self-serving agenda, few know of their equally self-serving push to bend whole state governments their way. In addition to the $37 million that their industrial conglomerate, Koch Industries, has pumped into politicians, PACs and ballot initiatives in the past two decades, the Kochs are dominant players in all things American Legislative Exchange Council (known as ALEC). Here are some examples: Support for Anti-Science Group Withers: American Electric Power Leaves ALEC.

Another major company has decided that its values and those of the American Legislative Exchange Council no longer match up.

Support for Anti-Science Group Withers: American Electric Power Leaves ALEC

Leaving ALEC is the right step for American Electric Power, one the U.S.’s largest electric utilities, an owner of lots of coal plants, and one of the top carbon-emitting utilities. There are signs that more progress is coming, and you can bet we’ll be watching closely to make sure that happens. The right thing to do ALEC has been having a rough time lately. The organization purports to be about free markets, but actually, as we see so clearly in the climate and energy space and as UCS has documented many times, has often been more about obscuring the science and pushing an agenda that’s against energy progress and undermines market evolution. That disconnect between what ALEC stands for and what leading companies know to be true—how market-oriented, fact-based, rational companies make decisions—has become irreconcilable for many companies—and their shareholders. CMD Submits Evidence of Exxon Mobil Funding ALEC’s Climate Change Denial to New York Attorney General.

The Center for Media and Democracy, a national watchdog group exposing corporate influence on democracy, has submitted evidence to New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman showing how Exxon Mobil has promoted climate change denial through the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). ALEC Exposed. What is ALEC? ALEC is not a lobby; it is not a front group. It is much more powerful than that. Through the secretive meetings of the American Legislative Exchange Council, corporate lobbyists and state legislators vote as equals on ‘model bills’ to change our rights that often benefit the corporations’ bottom line at public expense. ALEC is a pay-to-play operation where corporations buy a seat and a vote on ‘task forces’ to advance their legislative wish lists and can get a tax break for donations, effectively passing these lobbying costs on to taxpayers.

ALEC Plans Corporate Control and Privatization Of Every City In America. The idea of absolute control means exerting one’s will over every aspect of an organization from the very top down to the lowliest position. In their drive to control America from the top down, it is insufficient for the Koch brothers to control Congress and the Supreme Court without owning the occupant of the White House any more than controlling every Republican state legislature without control over those state’s city and county governments. It is true the Koch’s are poised to spend nearly a billion dollars to put a Koch surrogate in the White House, and to completely take over the entire nation they are paying an American Legislative Exchange Council subsidiary to impose their corporate agenda on every town, village, city, and county in America.

American Legislative Exchange Council. Founded in the early 1970s to promote right-wing policies at the state level, the American Legislative Exchange Council's focus has shifted to favor the promotion of state legislation and regulation that benefits its corporate sponsors. A fact that should come as no surprise given its funding by right-wing foundations and corporate membership fees ranging from $5000 to $50,000. The council boasts a large clearinghouse of research, model bills, and legislative strategies to promote its agenda. Ford becomes latest corporation to sever ties with conservative Alec lobby. Ford has cut ties with the controversial lobby group Alec, joining a roster of big corporations that have distanced themselves from the rightwing network that promotes policies at the state level to counter environmental regulations. The car giant confirmed to the watchdog the Center for Media and Democracy (CMD) that it had ended its membership. A company spokesman said that “we will not be participating in Alec in 2016”.

Ford did not specify the reason for the split other than to say that it flowed from an “annual budget review”. Ford’s departure from the American Legislative Exchange Council puts it in league with other massive corporations that in recent months have concluded that association with the lobbying network is more trouble than it’s worth. Other big firms that have similarly broken connections include the technology companies Google, Facebook, eBay and Yelp, as well as the energy giants Shell and BP. Ford’s funding of Alec was first disclosed by CMD last November.
