We are all equally entitled to our human rights without discrimination. These rights are all interrelated, interdependent and indivisible. This Is What Kentucky’s Anti-LGBT Pro-Discrimination Plan Looks Like. Kentucky is the latest state advancing legislation specifically designed to enable discrimination against the LGBT community.
Arizona Republicans move to ban social justice courses and events at schools. Republican lawmakers in Arizona are pushing to prohibit school courses and events that promote ethnic studies and social justice, with legislation that critics say broadly targets academic freedom and students of color.
The newly introduced bill – which seeks to build on an existing GOP-backed law that banned a Mexican American studies class – marks the latest attack in academia on activism and research centered on marginalized groups. Some opponents said the proposal is part of a national trend, tied to the election of Donald Trump, of lawmakers working to suppress progressive organizations and protests. The bill, from state representative Bob Thorpe, would prohibit “courses, classes, events and activities” in public schools that promote “social justice toward a race, gender, religion, political affiliation, social class or other class of people”. Jeff Sessions confirmation hearing to shine light on history of racism claims.
Donald Trump’s nominee for US attorney general will on Tuesday be forced to defend a career dogged by claims of racism and bigotry, as Democrats begin a struggle to block cabinet appointments made by the president-elect.
Jeff Sessions, a law-and-order Alabama conservative loathed by civil rights activists, is due to be questioned by senators at the first confirmation hearing of an overloaded week in Washington, where Republicans are moving to steamroller opposition to nine of Trump’s contentious selections. Democratic Senate leaders have accused Trump of trying to “jam through unvetted nominees”, while in an extraordinary statement, the nonpartisan Office of Government Ethics condemned the “vote-a-rama” strategy as unprecedented in its four-decade existence. The Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, dismissed such concerns on Monday. Sessions, who has also come under criticism for his hardline anti-immigration stance, has vehemently denied being racist. Hundreds of Women and Children Just Released From Immigrant Detention Need Support. Nearly five hundred women and children were released from family detention centers in Texas this week after a judge ruled these facilities were unsuitable for children.
While the decision is a victory for advocates, the unexpected release has left families and aid organizations scrambling. The detention centers opened in 2014 as a response to the influx of Central American women and children fleeing violence and surrendering to Border Patrol to request asylum. These centers, however, were not designed to house women or children. In fact, according to RAICES (Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services), the families currently at Dilley are being housed in former “man camps” that were used for oil field workers. 'Hobby Lobby' Lawyers Are Back at It, This Time to Restrict LGBTQ Rights in Minnesota - Rewire. The Alliance for Defending Freedom (ADF), a group of conservative attorneys, has made yet another attempt to block LGBTQ people from fully participating in society—this time, by claiming Minnesota’s Human Rights Act could be used to unfairly target businesses who might hypothetically want to deny services to same-sex couples on religious grounds.
ADF—which was instrumental in litigating the Burwell v. Hobby Lobby case and suing the state of Illinois on behalf of fake pregnancy clinics—has used this anti-LGBTQ strategy before. A few years ago, ADF lost a case in New Mexico where it represented a photography business that was sued when it refused to work with a same-sex couple. Lane Bryant’s epic Twitter chat fail: “Their brand is to make fat people feel like they are our only choice” By now, it would seem that Twitter chats are most assuredly not the place any public figure or company should go unless they are prepared for an unrelenting onslaught of challenging and/or ridiculous questions.
Here’s a small sampling of notorious recent Twitter chat fails: Donald Trump, Bobby Jindal, E.L. James, and Dr. This Disabled New York Teen Was Set On Fire By A Bully. DeAndre Bloomfield in his hospital bed (image courtesy Ursula Allen via WNYW) In one of the most horrific instances of bullying I’ve seen in recent memory, a disabled 13-year-old boy from Staten Island suffered horrible burns when a so-called friend sprayed him with a flaming bottle of perfume and then threw it at him.
Incredibly, the teenage firebug is back on the streets for now. Deandre Bloomfield has been the target of jeers for most of his life because he was born with uneven limbs. According to his mother, Ursula Allen, the kids in his neighborhood frequently call him “Limpy” because he can’t run. However, one particularly outrageous act of bullying crossed the line into criminal assault–and landed Deandre in Staten Island University Hospital.
Last Wednesday, Deandre was hanging out at a community center near the West Brighton Houses when another teen whom he believed to be his friend invited him to his apartment on Henderson Avenue. The US Department of Justice released new guidelines Thursday prohibiting corrections agencies from placing transgender inmates into men’s or women’s units solely based on their anatomy at birth.
Federal regulations have required prisons and jails to consider transgender inmates’ gender identity since 2012 – and those prisoners’ views on where they would feel safest. However, most agencies continue to have blanket policies or practices that put inmates in cells based on their genitalia. The change was applauded by civil rights organizations as an important step forward in protecting the safety and dignity of a highly vulnerable population – one far more likely to be raped while behind bars than other inmates. God's View On Homosexuality (MUST SEE!!!) Men are the problem here: Stop harassing women in public restrooms under the guise of “protecting” us. Ladies, we are so lucky.
Where would we be without big strong men to keep us safe in our public restrooms? Who will protect us from guys barging in our private spaces, if not other guys, barging in our private spaces? Local NBC News in North Texas reports this week that a gay woman says she was followed into a hospital bathroom — and then confronted — by a man who was skeptical of her gender. Jessica Rush says that she was being treated for an arm injury at Baylor Medical Center in Frisco on Thursday when she entered the restroom — and realized she had company. She told reporters, “It scared me at first. Rush, who says she was wearing athletic clothing and a baseball hat at the time, graciously told NBC that “I understand one thing if you’re a cop of the Dallas Police Department. Although banning sodomy has been deemed unconstitutional across the country, Michigan's new anti-sodomy law still poses a threat to the LGBT community It has been 13 years since the United States Supreme Court essentially declared every statewide sodomy ban as being unconstitutional. However, at least 12 states still maintain the archaic laws on their books as a way to remind the LGBT community “you are still not equal here.” And in the case of some overzealous cops in Louisiana to badger, arrest, and embarrass men; All while claiming they, the cops charged with enforcing the law, didn’t know the law.
Here in Michigan, one crafty little Republican representative found a way to reaffirm a sodomy ban and dup every single democrat into following suit. If only Lavoy Finicum had not been a white man ... One example we can contrast to Ammon Bundy and Lavoy Finicum is the occupation of Alcatraz Island by Native Americans 45 years ago. Shortly before dawn on November 20, 1969, 89 American Indians boarded boats in Sausalito, California, and made a five-mile trip across foggy San Francisco Bay to Alcatraz Island. Upon landing, they declared the former prison Indian land “by right of discovery” and demanded the U.S. government provide funding to turn it into a Native American cultural center and university.
When their terms were ignored, the activists spent more than 19 months occupying the island in defiance of the authorities. Federal officials finally removed the last of the protestors from “the Rock” in June 1971, but not before the occupation had started a national dialogue about the plight of American Indians. This occupation went through many changes before its end, which came after the daughter of one of the primary organizers died in an accident. It’s rock, paper, scissors. Delaware signs symbolic resolution to apologize for slavery. Delaware’s state government has apologized for its role in slavery and the wrongs of the Jim Crow era, with governor Jack Markell signing a symbolic resolution on Wednesday to atone for the centuries of systemic injustice.
Along with signing the resolution passed by state lawmakers last month, Markell presented a proclamation recognizing African American History Month. He also helped unveil an exhibit commemorating the 125th anniversary of historically black Delaware State University. “It is not enough for us to refrain from the bad; it’s not enough for us to be silent,” Markell said at the signing. “We have to speak up, and that is what this is all about.” Delaware State University president Harry Williams and state archivist Stephen Marz were among those at the ceremony at the Delaware Public Archives building.
The resolution is a symbolic measure aimed at promoting “reconciliation and healing”. Amazing Responses To The Question: ‘What Would The World Look Like Without Black People?’ - www.liberalamerica.org. Even though it’s 2016, have people really changed that much? From the Black Lives Matter movement to the unbelievable flack that Beyoncé has been getting over her recent Super Bowl 50 performance, it seems that race issues are in the social conscience now as much as ever. While there are many efforts being made now to help address race issues today, one video from just over a year ago still resonates today for many people. In 2015 the Jubilee Project put out a YouTube video that asked random people one simple question:

» Larry Tomczak Warns Against ‘Engaging In Sodomy With The Sewage System Of Another’s Anatomy’ Recently, right-wing commentator Larry Tomczak unveiled something he is calling the “30 Day Bullseye Challenge,” which consists of 30 short videos outlining the proper Christian worldview on everything from abortion and capital punishment to masturbation and sexting. Several of the videos, unsurprisingly, address topics related to the issue of homosexuality, which Tomczak explained inevitably leads to disease and misery. “With all the hoopla about this one and that one, hey, they’re coming out and it being a time to celebrate gay marriage and gay lifestyles as normal, natural, beautiful,” he said, “people need to awaken … to the reality that this so-called love story doesn’t have a happy ending.”
