The duration is two years, and the programme culminates in the degree of M.Sc. in International Fisheries Management. The programme aims at recruiting students from fisheries nations and students planning a career within the area of fisheries management. The programme started in 1998 and has at the end of 2009 educated 153 masters from 39 countries. Student Exchange There is no special student exchange at the programme, but between first and second year the international students go back to their home countries and collect data for their master thesis. The Norwegian students do also have the opportunity to collect data for their master thesis in the number of cooperating countries.

Beschreibung des Studienganges Der Masterstudiengang Marine Ökosystem- und Fischereiwissenschaften verknüpft die Forschungsrichtungen Biologische Ozeanographie und Fischereiwissenschaften, und bietet somit eine in Deutschland einmalige Kombination von grundlegender und angewandter Forschung innerhalb der marinen Wissenschaften.
Die Studierenden erwerben zum einen grundlegendes Wissen in beiden Teilgebieten, um sich im weiteren in einem Gebiet zu spezialisieren. Diese Kombination entspricht der momentanen internationalen Entwicklung in der marinen Ökologie, bei der grundlegende und angewandte Fragen nicht mehr isoliert voneinander betrachtet werden. Der Masterstudiengang Marine Ökosystem- und Fischereiwissenschaften vermittelt grundlegendes Wissen in den beiden Teilgebieten Biologische Ozeanographie und Fischereiwissenschaften und erlaubt im weiteren Verlauf die Spezialisierung in einer Teildisziplin. Objectives and content The aim of the Joint Nordic Master´s Programme in Marine Ecosystems and Climate is to train students with a background in either physical oceanography or biological oceanography in the skills necessary for addressing complex interdisciplinary problems in marine science, and to prepare them for positions in society where such competence is needed.
Parallel to the interdisciplinary activities, the students will also strengthen their disciplinary competence by pursuing more traditional courses in their own field, acquiring a higher-level specialization in either physical or biological oceanography. A mentor system is applied, and the individual education plan for each student is worked out in consultation with his or her mentor at the start of the programme, to fit each student´s particular interests and background.
