Over the last few days we’ve been tracking Apple’s recent decision to remove all sexual content from the App Store. It’s an alarming move on Apple’s part, if only because it shows that the company is willing to throw developers (and their livelihoods) under the bus without any notice at all. Now developers are left wondering: just what exactly is allowed on the App Store?

The Most Efficient iPhone Developers - O'Reilly Radar - Mondador

Last week marked the first time the U.S. iTunes store had over 150,000 apps available. Close to 31,000 different developers (or "sellers") were responsible for those apps, with many offering one to five apps, while a few offered over a hundred different apps. Which developers consistently produce top-selling apps? http://radar.oreilly.com/2010/02/efficient-iphone-developers.html
We couldn’t help but notice our community being all a-twitter about huge, unexpected rank changes in the last two days. We thought we’d break out the old calculator and examine it a little bit. As you know, appFigures tracks top-200 ranks in App Stores around the world. We took this data and looked at each app’s changes by comparing the hourly change of each app and taking the largest hourly move per day. http://blog.appfigures.com/the-app-store-is-crazy-certified-crazy/

Apple & The Balkanization of Content

http://cabanamobile.blogspot.com/2010/04/apple-balkanization-of-content.html Andrew Seybold wrote a great piece on FierceMobileContent this morning bemoaning how Apple has taken us back to the future by creating their own version of the walled garden from the bad ol' days (not that long ago) when the only way to get content for mobile devices was through a carrier deck. The smartphone revolution was supposed to liberate us all from those proprietary, AOL-esque environments, and give us access to a universe of content available across devices... right? Well Apple apparently didn't get that memo and/or think that was a good idea, at all... and instead took the opportunity to Think Different.

Asus to Launch App Store for Netbooks

While Asus is making headlines in the tablet category , it’s also revamping its netbook offerings. The company announced today that it will be opening an app store for netbooks later this year. The store is reminiscent of the Intel AppUp Center . The Asus app store will be a destination for netbook owners to find netbook-specific or netbook-optimized software that will play nicely on smaller screens, and with the OSes and processors an Asus netbook might sport.

What's The Future Of Application Stores? | Forrester Blogs

At the beginning of this year, we stated that application stores would continue to flourish, but none would replicate Apple's success in 2010. So far, it has been quite easy not to be proven wrong on this one. Android Market and, to a lesser extent, RIM's BlackBerry App World are growing fast in the US, while Nokia's OVI is performing quite well in some regions. Windows Marketplace is likely to benefit from end-of-year Windows 7 sales, while Samsung Apps are not yet really marketed, not to mention LG's efforts. The Wholesale Applications Community (the operators' alliance) has not yet launched. Global operators have yet to significantly launch their own multiplatform stores. http://blogs.forrester.com/thomas_husson/10-06-06-whats_future_application_stores

Winning The App Store Lotto: What A Week At No.1 In The App Stor

Ever wonder what a week as the No. 1 free iPhone app in the App Store translates to in downloads and ad revenues? One of the employees at mobile ad management platform Burstly created an app called Air Horn, which simply makes a very loud horn noise. The app, which had been out for over 6 months and had zero marketing dollars spent to promote it, recently hit the No. 1 spot on the Free App list. http://techcrunch.com/2010/06/08/winning-the-app-store-lotto-what-a-week-at-no-1-in-the-app-store-looks-like/
