NBC News on Dr. Ben Carson: 'Blinded by the White'

In response to the manufactured uproar, the soft-spoken Carson (who was a hero to the left until he came out as a conservative), did the interview rounds on cable Friday, including Andrea Mitchell's show on MSNBC and Wolf Blitzer's on CNN. In both appearances, Carson apologized for what he said and made clear that he wasn't comparing gay couples to pedophiles or those erotically charged by animals. His point was that God defined what marriage is, not man, and if man changes that definition, it can lead to anything. Carson also said he was in favor of giving same-sex couples the same rights as married couples, short of marriage. NBC News obviously wants to destroy the threat of any independent-thinking black man as quickly as possible.

Dr. Carson Banned from a Commencement Speech? - By John Fund

Dr. Carson became a media sensation in January when he questioned Obamacare and progressive taxation in a speech to the National Prayer Breakfast as President Obama sat just a few feet away from him. With his new prominence, Carson has apparently also riled some liberals, including these Johns Hopkins students. Last Tuesday, he told Sean Hannity of Fox News that “marriage is between a man and a woman. No group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality, it doesn’t matter what they are, they don’t get to change the definition.” I think people have completely taken the wrong meaning out of what I was saying. Carson says he is willing to forego his commencement duties if he is formally asked to. We’ll see if his apology is accepted. By Tom Curry, National Affairs Writer, NBC News In a historic oral argument on a challenge to state laws that limit marriage to heterosexual couples, the Supreme Court indicated Tuesday that it might not strike down such laws. The justice whom many observers view as the swing vote in the case, Justice Anthony Kennedy, voiced worry at one point during the argument that proponents of same-sex marriages were asking the court to issue a decision that would “go into uncharted waters.” After the oral argument, Pete Williams of NBC News reported that it seemed “quite obvious that the U.S. Pew: American Approval of Supreme Court Hits All-Time Low. Photo of US court hopeful Elena Kagan sparks debate over sexuality.

A photo of Elena Kagan playing softball, while an assistant law professor at the University of Chicago in 1993, has left the US media in a lather. Photograph: AP It began, seemingly innocently enough, with a grainy black and white photograph of a woman smiling broadly and preparing to swing a bat in a game of softball. The picture was placed on the front page of Tuesday's Wall Street Journal and featured Elena Kagan, who the day before had been nominated by Barack Obama to join America's top court. But from that single photograph, combined with a two-line caption, has sprung a welter of debate this week about Kagan's sexuality, and the specific question: is she gay? The debate has been revealing about the status of lesbians in US public life in 2010. Within hours of the Journal publishing the photograph, issues had been raised by gay bloggers and the mainstream media alike.

Wide range of potential outcomes on gay marriage. WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court can choose from a wide array of outcomes in ruling on California's Proposition 8 ban on same-sex marriage and the federal Defense of Marriage Act.

The federal law, known by the shorthand DOMA, defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman and therefore keeps legally married gay Americans from collecting a range of federal benefits that generally are available to married people. The cases will be argued Tuesday and Wednesday; rulings are not likely before late June. The justices might come out with rulings that are simple, clear and dramatic. Prominent Republican Senator Offers Shocking Endorsement of Gay Marriage Shortly After Son “Comes Out” As if America wasn’t sufficiently divided by the abortion question, the country has also been torn about by the question of gay marriage.

Proponents say it’s a civil rights matter; opponent say it is a dangerous rush to undo the entirety of human moral and religious history, not to mention being a denial of basic biology. For people arguing in good faith, both positions represent a principled stand — which is why Ohio Senator Rob Portman’s sudden conversion to being a gay marriage supporter is managing to offend both Left and Right alike. Portman didn’t come to support gay marriage because he examined his principles, found them wanting, and realized that the answer lay on the other side of the political divide. Instead, he suddenly decided gay marriage was okay because his son came out as gay, and he decided it wasn’t fair that his son couldn’t be married. Many who have thought well of Portman have been taken aback by his change in stance. Hillary Clinton Endorses Same-Sex Marriage.
