Jerry Gonzalez, the head of the crew we hired for the training (and a veteran ABC News and CBS cameraman), pulled me aside and offered a view of press conferences I hadn’t heard before. Jerry knows what he’s talking about, since he’s covered hundreds of press conferences through the years. In his view, the first press conference in a crisis is the most difficult, because the spokesperson often has to face wild speculation from the press corps.
One of the most important jobs you have during the first press conference in a crisis, he argues, is to “narrow the focus” and “wrangle the information.” “You’re funneling information early in the story,” he says. It just seems like yesterday when it was announced. Part of me said “not another social network” while the other curious Jeff thought “this could be what we need to keep Facebook honest” 12 months later it appears that it is now the third largest social network in the English speaking world behind Twitter and of course Facebook. What a lot of people don’t realize as cocooned westerners is that we don’t have a monopoly on successful social networks with Sina Weibo in China having over 300 million users with over 100 million messages being posted every day. It does appear though that it is now possible that Google+ will be knocking on Facebook’s door within a couple years. Google+ Hits 250 Million Users The actual hard numbers that Google+ has just announced at the I/O conference is that in just one year it has grown from zero to 250 million plus users. The health care industry's increased use of electronic medical records (EMRs), wireless medical devices and personal mobile technology has turned hospital networks into important components in patient treatment.
Practicing medicine now requires maintaining constant wireless connectivity and possibly managing wired network traffic if doctors and nurses are to fully leverage health IT according to health care professionals. As IT's role in health care expanded from basic tasks on desktops to the more complex functions involving EMRs and clinical care, the network's importance grew, said Jon Morris, CIO and senior vice president, of the WellStar Health System, which operates hospitals, urgent care centers and medical practices in the Atlanta area.
"When we first started out doing relatively simple tasks the technology worked great," said Morris, who has served as an emergency department physician at WellStar Kennestone Hospital for 26 years.
