Is 2012 the year when we will see a major war in the Middle East? For years we have heard about rising tensions in the Middle East, and for years we have heard politicians express concerns about Iran’s nuclear program, but now things really do seem to be reaching a boiling point. In just the past few days, the U.S. government has imposed tough new sanctions on Iran and has totally shut down the U.S. embassy in Syria. The truth is that we are getting dangerously close to a major war in the Middle East. So will Israel strike Iran at some point in the next few months? Will the U.S. military intervene in the rapidly escalating conflict inside of Syria?

New Military Doctrine: America is "Looking for Enemies": Threatening China

The new United States military doctrine “Sustaining U.S. Global Leadership: Priorities for 21st Century Defence”, officially unveiled in January, is a clear indication that Washington's focus has once again shifted to China and the Asia Pacific region. The U.S. had not really shifted its gaze away from the region as it fought wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

War on Iran Would Mean World War III | Global Research TV

http://tv.globalresearch.ca/2012/01/war-iran-would-mean-world-war-iii The military build-up and economic sanctions against Iran are designed to unleash a global war from the Mediterranean to China with unpredictable consequences, warns Michel Chossudovsky, Director of the Centre for Research on Globalization. Tensions between Iran and the West are close to crisis level. With massive help from the western media, Iran has firmly become embedded as the root of all evil in the minds of many westerners. The author of the book Towards a World War Three Scenario, The Dangers of Nuclear War told RT that "The issue of Iran's nuclear weapons is a red herring, but this red herring could lead us to a WWIII scenario."
Against whom is the European Union’s so-called “oil embargo on Iran” really aimed at? This is an important geo-strategic question. Aside from rejecting the new E.U. measures against Iran as counter-productive, Tehran has warned the member states of the European Union that the E.U. oil embargo against Iran will hurt them and their economies far more than Iran. Tehran has thus warned the leaders of the E.U. countries that the new sanctions are foolish and against their national and bloc interests. http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=28973

The Globalization of War: The "Military Roadmap" to World War III

The concept of the “Long War” has characterized US military doctrine since the end of World War II. The broader objective of global military dominance in support of an imperial project was first formulated under the Truman administration in the late 1940s at the outset of the Cold War. In September 1990, some five weeks after Saddam Hussein’s Iraq invaded Kuwait, US President and Commander in Chief George Herbert Walker Bush delivered a historical address to a joint session of the US Congress and the Senate in which he proclaimed a New World Order emerging from the rubble of the Berlin Wall and the demise of the Soviet Union. http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=28254
There is a strong speculation that Israel is bound to mount an attack on Iranian nuclear sites, a threat which the Zionist regime has frequently repeated and an idea which, if translated into action, will bring about apocalyptic consequences for the Zionist entity. Reportedly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has recently sought to drum up cabinet support for a military strike against the nuclear sites of the Islamic republic of Iran. In joint efforts with the defense minister Ehud Barak, Netanyahu has succeeded in wringing support for such a reckless act from the skeptics who were already opposed to launching an attack on Iran. http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=27440

An Israel Attack on Iran: Military Suicide

The military deployment of US-NATO forces is occurring in several regions of the World simultaneously. Militarization at the global level is instrumented through the US military's Unified Command structure: the entire planet is divided up into geographic Combatant Commands under the control of the Pentagon. According to (former) NATO Commander General Wesley Clark, the Pentagon’s military road-map consists of a sequence of war theaters: “[The] five-year campaign plan [includes]... a total of seven countries, beginning with Iraq , then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Somalia and Sudan.” Iran's alleged nuclear weapons programme is the pretext and the justification.

Global Firepower - 2011 World Military Strength Ranking

http://www.globalfirepower.com/ GlobalFirepower.com (GFP) GFP provides a unique analytical display of data covering global military powers with statistics compiled through various sources. All manner of countries are considered in the ranking, a spectrum helping to produce a near-complete comparison of relative military strengths from across the globe. The user should note that nuclear capability is not taken into account for the final ranking for this listing is purely a "numbers game" meant to spark debate and including nuclear weapons would clearly defeat its purpose. Therefore GFP comparisons are for consideration in a conventional war based solely on each individual nation's capabilities on land, at sea and through the air while including logistical and financial aspects when waging total war. Sources are stated whenever possible though some statistics are estimated if official numbers are not available.

While the White House continues to stand on Obama’s side regarding military presence in Libya, lawmakers are calling his actions both illegal and unconstitutional and have now filed a lawsuit against the commander in chief. According to author David Swanson, the White House makes the argument that the War Powers Act doesn’t apply or “much less the Constitution.” The president feels that the conflict in Libya is not a war, or even a skirmish that has risen to a hostile level. Swanson argues, however, that the 1973-penned bill was made to keep the US out of involvements just like this.

Congress sues President Obama over Libya — RT

Within hours after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, it was clear that political leaders were going to use the attacks to justify war in Central Asia and the Middle East. And within hours, those of us critical of that policy began to offer principled and practical arguments against aggressive war as a response to the crimes. It didn't matter because neither the public nor policymakers were interested in principled or practical arguments.
