Art Nouveau

Gismonda, 1894 by Alphonse Mucha , a leading artist of the Art Nouveau movement Art Nouveau ( French pronunciation: [aʁ nu'vo] , Anglicised to / ˈ ɑː r t n uː ˈ v oʊ / ) is an international philosophy [ 1 ] and style of art, architecture and applied art —especially the decorative arts —that were most popular during 1890–1910. [ 2 ] The name "Art Nouveau" is French for "new art". It is known also as Modernisme in Catalonia ( Spain ), with its most notable contributions by the architect Antoni Gaudí . Known as Jugendstil , pronounced [ˈjuːɡn̩tstiːl ] in Germany, German for "youth style" or "the style of youth", named after the magazine Jugend , which promoted it, as Modern (Модерн) in Russia, perhaps named after Parisian gallery "La Maison Moderne", as Secession in Austria-Hungary and its successor states after the Viennese group of artists , and, in Italy, as Stile Liberty from the department store in London, Liberty & Co. , which popularised the style.

It’s a very pretty detail seen most often in vintage clothing. It’s easy to incorporate this kind of seam into any patterns you make that have a yoke, or any other simple seam. In this case, I’m making a silk blouse with a V-shaped yoke.

LoveSewing | Date posted: January 22nd, 2010 After years of seeing teen and twentysomething celebs shuffle around Hollywood in oversized glasses, floppy sweater coats, layers of jewellery, and bags bigger than them, the fashion tides have turned. AnnaLynne McCord’s sleek, form-fitting style is the latest glamour standard, best defined as paired-down California cool. Basic black is always slimming and showcases a gorgeous face.
Tammy Palmer | Date posted: March 25th, 2011 Fashion front-row fixture and Hollywood hottie Kate Bosworth is everyone’s favourite girl-next-door celeb. With her California-fresh looks, golden locks, sun-kissed cheeks, and sparkling eyes, she’s a paparazzi darling. Style: Kate’s on-the-go youthful style allows her to play with colour and texture—no wonder you’ll see her sitting front row at such shows as Proenza Schouler and Rodarte. She favours clean, modern silhouettes for evening and leans on designers such as Calvin Klein and Valentino to frame her body with dramatic floor-skimming gowns. http://www.lovesewing.com/magazine/kate-bosworth/2359/

The Italian-French model/actress-who just happens to be Christian Louboutin’s goddaughter-was photographed by Karl Lagerfeld for the Pirelli 2011 calendar and was the face for Chanel’s 2010 eyewear collection. She first garnered attention as the face of Lagerfeld’s “Remember Now” video, which coincided with his Resort Collection for Chanel, and is soon to be snapped by Nick Knight for Giorgio Armani’s Spring 2011 campaign launching this month. Sednaoui also likes to be behind the lens as well-she was spotted at the New York Collections this past September snapping up film footage for Paper magazine. Style: Sednaoui favours edgy streamlined looks-everything from dramatic leather pieces to classic jumpsuits and slick heels to chunky accessories, save for a pair of Chanel sunglasses.
