Charles Fletcher, Associate Dean and Professor of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Hawaii at Manoa's School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology, released this month the first edition of "Climate Change: What the Science Tells Us" (published by J. 420,000 Years of Data Suggests Global Warming is Not Man-Made. The global warming debate is one of the biggest topics of the last few years.

It makes it’s way into the political, financial, environmental, entertainment and social arena. Army: Sun, Not Man, Is Causing Climate Change (Updated) The Army is weighing in on the global warming debate, claiming that climate change is not entirely man-made.

Reconciling anthropogenic climate change with observed temperature 1998–2008

Dickinson, University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX, and approved June 2, 2011 (received for review February 16, 2011) Abstract Given the widely noted increase in the warming effects of rising greenhouse gas concentrations, it has been unclear why global surface temperatures did not rise between 1998 and 2008. We find that this hiatus in warming coincides with a period of little increase in the sum of anthropogenic and natural forcings. Sun Spot Cycle Prompts Fears of Global Cooling. Yet again my religious faith in Anthropogenic Global Warming has been shaken to its core by the power of Conservative Science.

Sun Spot Cycle Prompts Fears of Global Cooling

Witness the headline appearing on the Drudge Report last week: 2012 State of the Climate Report Released. Worldwide, 2012 was among the 10 warmest years on record according to the 2012 State of the Climate report released online today by the American Meteorological Society (AMS).

2012 State of the Climate Report Released

The peer-reviewed report, with scientists from NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, NC serving as lead editors, was compiled by 384 scientists from 52 countries (highlights, full report). It provides a detailed update on global climate indicators, notable weather events, and other data collected by environmental monitoring stations and instruments on land, sea, ice, and sky. Conditions in the Arctic were a major story of 2012, with the region experiencing unprecedented change and breaking several records. Sea ice shrank to its smallest “summer minimum” extent since satellite records began 34 years ago. Climate Controversies. Basics of Climate Science. Sciency. Clarifying My Views about Anthropogenic Climate Change. Recently, a deservedly prominent integral thinker expressed to me his concern that what I have said about anthropogenic climate change may be inadvertently giving comfort to those who claim that humans have no influence on Earth’s climate.

Clarifying My Views about Anthropogenic Climate Change

Given the consequences of the worst case scenario of climate change, including temperature increases of up to 4 Cº or more and dramatic rises in sea level, I am glad that my interlocutor encouraged me to clarify my position in regard to the role played by humans in climate change. I have never intended to give "aid and comfort to the enemies" of rational discourse needed to develop a more sustainable human culture. I believe that human activity, including but not limited to burning fossil fuels, is contributing to climate change. In various places, I have articulated a nuanced critique of the politically-correct IPCC climate view, in order to move public discourse beyond its current polarization. MAN. Two reasons climate change is not like other environmental problems.

If you’ll forgive me for stating the obvious: Most people don’t understand climate change very well.

Two reasons climate change is not like other environmental problems

This includes a large proportion of the nation’s politicians, journalists, and pundits — even the pundits who write about it. (I’m looking at you, Joe Nocera.) One reason for the widespread misunderstanding is that climate change has been culturally coded as an “environmental problem.” This has been, in all sorts of ways, a disaster. Lots of pundits, especially brain-dead “centrist” pundits, have simply transferred their framing and conception of environmental problems to climate. A Republican Case for Climate Action. There is no longer any credible scientific debate about the basic facts: our world continues to warm, with the last decade the hottest in modern records, and the deep ocean warming faster than the earth’s atmosphere.

Sea level is rising. Arctic Sea ice is melting years faster than projected. The costs of inaction are undeniable. The lines of scientific evidence grow only stronger and more numerous. And the window of time remaining to act is growing smaller: delay could mean that warming becomes “locked in.” A market-based approach, like a carbon tax, would be the best path to reducing greenhouse-gas emissions, but that is unachievable in the current political gridlock in Washington. Weather extremes provoked by trapping of giant waves in the atmosphere. The world has suffered from severe regional weather extremes in recent years, such as the heat wave in the United States in 2011 or the one in Russia 2010 coinciding with the unprecedented Pakistan flood.

Behind these devastating individual events there is a common physical cause, propose scientists of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). Global Warming Alarmism. In recent years, much publicity and fear has been generated concerning the idea of "Global Warming" / "Climate Change.

Global Warming Alarmism

" In addition, a large number of people around the world are convinced that Global Warming is due to human behavior to a significant degree (especially the burning of fossil fuels), and they are urging that sweeping political action be taken to force people to change their life-styles in order to "save the world" from this feared warming trend. ...However, do the facts demonstrate that this truly is a fearfully threatening concern? Before governments and nations become overly anxious, and encur a lot of expense, and change whole economies, we must put the Global Warming / Climate Change issue into long-term perspective. -- Of course, this can't be properly done by considering the temperature measurements of a few years or decades ...but we need to look at centuries and ideally hundreds of millennia, if possible.

Report shows UN admitting solar activity may play significant role in global warming. By Maxim Lott, Charles Couger FoxNews.com The Earth has been getting warmer -- but how much of that heat is due to greenhouse gas emissions and how much is due to natural causes? A leaked report by a United Nations’ group dedicated to climate studies says that heat from the sun may play a larger role than previously thought. “[Results] do suggest the possibility of a much larger impact of solar variations on the stratosphere than previously thought, and some studies have suggested that this may lead to significant regional impacts on climate,” reads a draft copy of a major, upcoming report from the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). GOP Congressman Challenges Barbara Boxer To Debate To Prove Climate Change 'Is A Total Fraud' Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) told constituents over the weekend that climate change "is a total fraud" designed by liberals to create "global government.

" Now Rohrabacher wants to have a public debate where he would presumably be expected to present facts that could help him prove this statement. The GOP congressman and renowned climate science denier -- and also a member of the House Science Committee -- issued a challenge to Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) over the weekend, after the Democrat suggested the current uncharacteristically extreme wildfire season warranted a serious discussion about how climate change is affecting the temperature and length of the state's dry season.

"I challenge Barbara Boxer to a debate on climate change, on global warming," Rohrabacher said, according to CBS Los Angeles.
