Del Rey signed a record deal with 5 Points Records in 2007 and released her debut EP, Kill Kill the following year, under her birth name, Lizzy Grant. Her debut studio album, Lana Del Ray, was shelved initially and was released in 2010, under the name Lana Del Ray, but pulled 3 months later, in April 2010.[1][2]
In 2011, Del Rey signed a record deal with Stranger Records and released her first single, "Video Games".[3][4] It is Del Rey's best-charting single to date, peaking at number one in three countries, being certified Platinum in Australia, Austria, and Belgium and double Platinum in Switzerland.[5][6][7][8] Later that year, she signed a joint record deal with Interscope Records and Polydor Records and released her sophomore studio album, including "Video Games", Born to Die, the following year.[9][10] Born to Die peaked at number one in nine countries.[11][12][13][14][15] It has been certified Platinum in ten countries,[16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25] double Platinum in six countries,[26][27][28][29][30] and triple Platinum in France, Germany and the United Kingdom.[31][32][33] It was the fifth best-selling album worldwide in 2012 and has shipped over five million copies as of September 2013.[34][35] Born to Die also produced eight singles. "Summertime Sadness", the album's sixth single, peaked at number one in Poland and was certified Platinum in Germany, Italy, and the United States.[18][22][36][37] In 2013, a Cedric Gervais remix of "Summertime Sadness" was released. It peaked at number one in Hungary, was certified Platinum in the United States, double Platinum in Canada and triple Platinum in Australia.[22][38][39][40]
Del Rey followed up Born to Die with an EP called Paradise in late 2012.[41] The EP produced three singles.[42][43][44] In 2013, Del Rey contributed the song "Young and Beautiful" to the soundtrack of the 2013 adaptation of F.
Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. The song was certified Platinum in the United States and triple Platinum in Australia.[22][45]
