Very Few Brands Are Actually On Tumblr. How Consumers Are Using Their Phones. Brands Spend On Facebook Not Effective. State Social Media Advertising. SOCIAL MEDIA ADVERTISING Massive Rise. Social Media Advertising Set To Explode. BI Intelligence It's not difficult to understand the lure of social media advertising. Social networks like Facebook and Twitter are daily destinations for millions of consumers. Increasingly, their ad products offer targeting according to specific demographics, social connections, interests, and habits. As brands look across a fractured media landscape, where few digital properties offer any scale, social networks offer them an interesting proposition. In a new report from BI Intelligence, we analyze the state of social media advertising and where it is heading, offering a comprehensive guide and examination of the advertising ecosystems on Facebook and Twitter, offer a primer on Tumblr as an emerging ad medium, and detail how mobile is an important part of this story as mobile-friendly native ad formats fuel growth in the market.

Pinterest Pushes Global Growth With A Localized Version For France, Its First Non-English Site. Pinterest, the image-based social network, is picking up more global momentum: today, it announced the launch of a new site in French, with users in France getting pushed more localized content and more French site links in both their search and category feeds.

The French version is being launched simultaneously on web, iOS and Android, and follows news in May of Pinterest in the UK, the site’s first move into international waters. With much of 2012 seeing a number of sites following in the footsteps of Pinterest and undergoing “Pinterestification” redesigns — that is, highly-visual, grid-based layouts and instant links for social sharing — the big challenge for Pinterest now is to use its position not only to stay ahead of the pack, but to take things to the next level.

With advertising appearing to be a part of how the company plans to monetize the platform, scaling up will be essential, and that is where international growth is key. Tumblr Brings More Ads To Users’ Dashboards, Rearranges Buttons & Teens Freak Out. A month after Tumblr introduced sponsored posts into its native mobile applications, the company is today bringing those same brand advertisements to its web dashboard. Launch partners for these new “Sponsored Web Posts,” as they’re called, include Viacom, Ford Motor Company, Universal Pictures, Capital One, AT&T, Denny’s and Purina.

Tumblr users will be able to reblog, like, follow and share these ads and the brands themselves directly from their web dashboard, which of course, is what we know all the Tumblr-lovin’ teens are just dying to do. Like Tumblr’s sidebar “Radar” ads, the new sponsored posts will be marked with an animated dollar sign icon to indicate that they are paid placements. Also like Tumblr’s mobile advertising, users will only see up to four sponsored posts per day. Sponsored Web Posts in the dashboard will continue to roll during a beta period that ends in June 2013.

The expansion of brand advertising in Tumblr was expected, whether or not Yahoo bought the company. Twitter Releases Vine For Android Smartphones As It Tops 13M Users. Twitter has released Vine for Android, bringing the 6-second video sharing service to Google’s mobile OS for the first time. The Vine app is available for Android smartphones right now, and is a free download for anyone running Android 4.0 or higher.

The Vine app for Android arrives just about five months after it arrived on iPhone, when Twitter launched the app back in late January after acquiring the startup behind Vine. In that time, it has managed to amass an impressive 13 million users on iOS alone. The version that arrives today for Android isn’t necessarily feature complete; the official Vine site says that it will be delivering a host of new features in future updates, including access to the front-facing camera, push notifications, the introduction of hashtag and mention features, and searching for both people and tags.

These will arrive in “frequent” updates according to the company. 50 Mobile Marketing Facts That Will Blow You Away [SLIDESHARE] Do you have a mobile website or app? I am a huge fan of Pinterest and am finding that I'm using it more and more. There are a lot of skeptics out there that think it's just for girls, or don't see the business value, but for you Pinterest virgins out there, I really recommend you try it out. It's a great tool for businesses (when used effectively) and I'm seeing more engagement, sharing and traffic back as a result.

As Pinterest has grown and become more popular unsurprisingly we have seen a rise of tools that have popped into the marketplace to help manage, measure and enhance the Pinterest experience. Without further ado, here are my favorite Pinterest tools and the reasons I love them: PinAlerts is a very useful Pinterest tool that allows you to find out in real time whether someone has pinned something from your website. It allows you to quickly respond and say thanks to those who are promoting your work, as well as helps increasing your followers by asking your pinners to follow some of your other boards. Wolfram's Facebook Big Data Research Is Rich With Insights. Stephen Wolfram doesn't shy away from big challenges. At the age of 21 he was one of the first winners of the MacArthur "Genius" grants for his work on the Theory of Strong Interaction in particle physics with Geoffrey Fox of the University of Indiana.

Then he invented the field of complex systems study when he founded the Center For Complex Systems at the University of Illinois in 1986. He built Mathmatica, a software program for solving algebra problems, which is still widely in use today. But he's probably best known in popular culture for building Wolfram! So it's not surprising that he would be compelled to dive into the ocean of data that Facebook produces. These include ages, locations, and Facebook activities of all friends. This week Wolfram released a massive report of what all this Facebook data says about us.

First, of course, there's the caveat that the data are only from the million or so Facebook users who have signed up for Personal Analytics For Facebook. Facebook Survey: What Users Hate About Brands. The treacherous waters of social media are not for the faint hearted. It can be hard to stay afloat amongst the constant stream of information that Facebook provides; birthdays, events, pictures of babies and dogs... How can your brand fit into that? Answer: By acquiring ‘Likes’. Once a user ‘Likes’ your page, your brand will slot nicely into that stream, and your posts, offers and other content will appear next to that picture of the dog asleep upside down.

But how can you keep those ‘Likes’? When someone ‘unfriends’ you, no matter who it is, there’s still a pang of disappointment. A recent study by Lab42 found 73% of social media users ‘unliked’ a brand because of the following reasons: Brands posted too frequently. The user stopped liking the brand. The user had a bad customer experience. They also asked why users don’t ‘like’ brands on Facebook: Adult novelty itemsDiet/weight loss productsHealth and wellness.

If your company falls into one of these categories, don’t worry. How to Use Facebook for Business. Are you using Facebook for business? While many small businesses are entering into the fray, they are using it in a very ‘traditional’ or ‘push’ marketing way. They understand that Twitter has potential for them to connect with their customers, but they aren’t quite sure how to use it and how they can benefit from it. As a result, many fall off the map and end up wasting time and resources with little to no benefit. Rather than rushing into using Facebook without knowing exactly why, your business should consider a more strategic approach. Coming up with a strategic approach to using Facebook will compliment all other marketing efforts and provide customers with a valuable online resource.
