A Cozy Kitchen » French Onion Soup and Pretty Nails!

On this episode of A Cozy Kitchen, I, Adrianna, will show all of you how I turned three onions (and a few other ingredients)… Into this cheesy, amazingness… All while painting my nails a pretty Christmas red. Yes! This French Onion Soup (by Julia Child) is super easy; it just takes a little bit of time…approximately, like, 3 hours or so, but most of it’s downtime. Which means you can do other stuff like paint your nails in front of the TV! And plus, I’m guessing you have holiday parties to go to and you want pretty nails.

Tweaked Recipe from Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child(My best friend bought this book for me a few years ago and it’s really a must have! Sweet Bourbon Glazed Salmon with Crispy Leeks. Good morning!

Sweet Bourbon Glazed Salmon with Crispy Leeks

I’m not sure what it’s like where you live, but New York is like a rain forest today! There is a fine mist drifting over the city, making it impossible to walk without, say, getting your glasses completely coated by rain. The umbrellas, they do nothing! It’s really the most obnoxious form of weather, and for some reason, it’s been happening at least once a week for the past few months, if not more. It stopped being funny a long time ago, Earth, so knock it off. Now that I look back on it, I seem to really love cooking with bourbon or whisky.

Your ingredients. Thinly slice your leeks. Melt a tablespoon of butter in a pan, then add your thinly sliced leeks. Combine your sauce ingredients and cook over medium-high heat until reduced and slightly thickened, about 10-12 minutes, stirring often. Rub your salmon with salt and pepper. I like my salmon more on the medium rare side, but you can cook it until it has reached your desired texture. Cook time: Total time: Pork Sandwiches with Cilantro-Jalapeno Slaw. Today’s recipe is more about the slaw than the pork.

Pork Sandwiches with Cilantro-Jalapeno Slaw

I used my Dr Pepper Shredded Pork for this sandwich, which I posted here in March. If you haven’t made it yet, please do so. Thank you. Note: the above pork recipe holds the distinction of being one of the most wondrous-smelling recipes during the cooking process. My house yesterday was a fragrant paradise. You don’t have to use pork, though. You can also just pick up some barbecue brisket or pork at a deli or other local joint. You need shredded meat. The beauty here…is the slaw! Whack a head of cabbage in half. Cut one half of the head in half, then turn each of the two quarters (I’m so awesome at math) on their side. Use a sharp knife to slice very thinly. If you run into a little core, just pull out the pieces and discard them.

Coring is boring. I tend to say that about anything at which I’m not very adept. If I’m bad at something, it’s so totally boring. Do the same with purple cabbage. Why is purple cabbage so gorgeous? Slice it thin…
