International PhD Program in Immunology, Cell Biology and Biochemistry | IRB. Theoretical Modeling of Cellular Physiology - Institut de biologie de l'école normale supérieure. My group focuses on the emerging field of modeling cellular biology and we have specifically concentrated on the physiology of microstructure and molecular trafficking. Until recently, we worked on modeling microdomains such as dendritic spines, the outer segment of photoreceptors, and synapses. We currently study cytoplasmic trafficking, where we analyze the motion of particles (ions, molecules, proteins, nucleic acids) in microdomains in order to identify the function of cellular microdomains, based on elementary chemical reactions. In the past, we developed a theory and numerical simulations to compute explicitly the time a Brownian particle spends inside a microdomain before escape (narrow escape problem) and we are now using these simulations to estimate the motion of a DNA molecule inside confined environments.

Saez-Rodriguez Group Research Interests. Systems biomedicine The goal of our group is to acquire a functional understanding of the deregulation of signalling networks in disease and to apply this knowledge to novel therapeutics. This deregulation in how cell process and react to extracellular information is a hallmark of multiple pathological conditions. Our main application is cancer, but we also work on metabolic and auto-immune diseases. Our research is hypothesis-driven and tailored towards producing mathematical models that integrate diverse data sources.

Because of this, we collaborate closely with experimental groups. Productive integration of data and computation requires an effective workflow that pulls together all the steps that link experiments to mathematical models and analysis. With these methods we hope to address questions such as: An illustration of how we use our logic modelling method CellNOpt to better understand deregulation of signal transduction in disease.

Academic requirements Candidates are expected to hold, or be about to achieve, a 1st or an upper 2nd class degree or an equivalent overseas qualification. High GRE scores are recommended for overseas applicants. Competence in English If your first language is not English you will need to meet the University of Cambridge's English language requirements , although you do not have to fulfil this requirement before submitting your on-line application to the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute.

Application procedure You need to complete the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute on-line application. Closing date for applications for the 2014-2015 intake: Tuesday 3rd December 2013 (midnight GMT) When completing the on-line application form you will need to: Once you have submitted your completed application form: to the University of Cambridge. Tri-I Training Program in Computational Biology and Medicine | Course of Study. Course requirements are defined by the Cornell University graduate field of Computational Biology, (details are available at www.cb.cornell.edu).

Prior to choosing a thesis laboratory, students will be required to complete (at least) two NYC laboratory rotations and one Cornell-Ithaca laboratory rotation, as detailed in the Time Line. These rotations provide the student the opportunity to experience a range of thesis laboratory options and thereby enable an informed thesis laboratory decision. Work-in-progress seminars and journal clubs are components of the student's education throughout the graduate training.

Admission-to-candidacy exam (A exam) and dissertation requirements are detailed in the Student Guide. Briefly, students may choose a thesis lab in any of the Tri-Institutions after completing the laboratory rotations described above. More details can be found in the Time Line and Student Guide. Centre for Human Proteomics and Medical Systems Biology - Royal College Surgeons in Ireland. Research within the centre spans a range of applications including proteomics, systems biology, biomarker identification, and clinical informatics. The research fields examined within the Centre for Systems Medicine include: Colorectal Cancer Colorectal Cancer (CRC) is the second most frequent cause of death from cancer in Ireland.5-Fluorouracil (5-FU)-based hemotherapeutic regimens are the standard treatment for these patients. Combining 5-FU with the newer chemotherapies such as oxaliplatin has improved response rates for advanced CRC to 40-50%. Melanoma Impaired apoptosis susceptibility is one of the key reasons for the resistance of malignant melanoma to chemo- and/or radiotherapy.

ACCUSA - Accurate SNP calling on draft genomes manuscript accepted Next generation sequencing technologies facilitate genome-wide analysis of several biological processes. We are interested in whole-genome genotyping. To our knowledge, none of the existing SNP callers consider the quality of the reference genome, which is not necessary for high quality assemblies of well-studied model organisms.

However, most genome projects will remain in draft status with little to no genome assembly improvement due to time and financial constraints. Active turnover modulates mature microRNA activity in Caenorhabditis elegans MicroRNAs (miRNAs) constitute a large class of regulatory RNAs that repress target messenger RNAs to control various biological processes1.

Manchester Centre for Integrative Systems Biology. CISBIO. The Centre for Integrative Systems Biology and Bioinformatics (CISBIO) was launched in June 2011 as a result of the merger of the Centre for Integrative Systems Biology at Imperial College (CISBIC) and the Centre for Bioinformatics (CfB). CISBIO brings together scientists from a wide range of different fields to develop innovative interdisciplinary approaches to understanding biological problems. A key component of the interdisciplinary strategy is a repeated cycle of experimentation and modelling.

The Centre provides core facilities to enhance this interdisciplinary approach including housing the Bioinformatics Support Service. CISBIO operates on a hub and spoke model with its hub on the 3rd Floor of the Wolfson Buliding, Department of Life Sciences, South Kensington Campus. CISBIO is part of the Institute of Systems and Synthetic Biology (IoSSB) which acts as the overarching strategic body for all Systems and Synthetic Biology activities at Imperial College. In the past, experimental analysis of any single component, such as a gene or its protein product, was extremely time consuming. Consequently a single laboratory could study only a handful of such components at any one time.

In reality, most genes, proteins and other components carry out their functions within a complex network of interactions. The recent revolution in high-throughput technologies offers an exciting opportunity to study such complex biological systems as an integrated whole. To meet this challenge, modern science requires new conceptual frameworks. ETH - IMSB People. ETH - IMSB Institute of Molecular Systems Biology. Computational medicine - Uppsala University, Sweden. Modern technology now allows the analysis of immune responses and host-pathogen interactions at a global level, across scales ranging from intracellular signaling networks to individual cell behavior to the functioning of a tissue, an organ, and the whole organism. The challenge is not only to collect the large amounts of data such methods permit, but also to organize the information in a manner that enhances our understanding of how the immune system operates or how pathogens affect their hosts. To do this, it is necessary to develop detailed quantitative models that can be used to predict the behavior of a complex biological system, whose properties help explain the mechanistic basis for physiological and pathological responses to infection or vaccination and can be used to design new therapies or vaccines.

Achieving this goal requires an interdisciplinary effort, and the Laboratory of Systems Biology (LSB) is designed to address this challenge. View Slides Read More. 2012 Scholarships for International Students to Study in USA and Abroad.
