Old MacDonald Felt Finger Puppets {Free Pattern. Finger puppet tutorial. Hi folks! Wanna make a lamby finger puppet? Or a squirrel? Or a mouse? Here's how: First off, you'll need this handy-dandy pattern* which I drew up: MammalFriendsFP Now, as far as materials go, you'll need: tissue paper for tracing the pattern piecesfelt (pieces should be at least 4 x 6 inches in size)scraps of fabric no smaller than 2 x 4 inchesstuffing material (I prefer Polyfil, but you can use wool or cotton - whatever suits you best)for the eyes - buttons, discs of felt, beads, or plastic safety eyesembroidery floss for the face details 1. ...for the lamb. ...for the squirrel. ...for the mouse. 2.

For the lamb, pin the ears with the edges facing the bottom of the puppet with the tips pointing to the front, like so: For the squirrel, make sure the edges face forward: For the mouse, pin the ears with the edges facing the bottom: Before you sew, make sure that all your ears look like this: 3. 4. 5. Puppet Size Length 13” (3” head circumference) Yarn Sport weight, misc. colors Needles Set of double-pointed #4 or #5, crochet hook for attaching hair Gauge About 5 stitches = 1 inch over stockinette stitch pattern Other Materials 3” diameter Styrofoam ball with hole drilled for finger; miscellaneous items for decoration, such as buttons, feathers, beads etc. Puppet is knit in one piece, starting at the bottom. Cast on 64 stitches and knit until puppet measures 7½”. Armholes: use the first 32 stitches for front, working back and forth in stockinette stitch pattern (knit on right side, purl on wrong side) for 16 rows. Neck decreases: *knit 2 stitches, knit 2 stitches together; repeat from * to end of round = 48 stitches remaining. Head: with head yarn color, knit 1 round. Arms: pick up stitches around armhole opening. Nose: cast on 10 to 12 stitches and knit 5 to 10 rounds (depending on length of nose).

3pigs PatternWHAT YOU NEED FOR THE PUPPETS:~ Print out the pattern. Cardstock will probably work best, if you have some~ Fleece -- pink and brown/grey -- You can use scraps, purchase dollar store fleece scarves or baby blankets, or buy just 1/8 yard of yardage from a fabric store~ Three 4-hole pink buttons for the pigs' noses~ Bead or felt scrap for wolfie's nose~ Scrap of rick-rack or white felt for wolfie's teeth~ Sewing machine~ Small amount of fiberfil stuffing (you could also use a couple cotton balls!)

STEP ONE: Fold your fleece right-sides together. STEP TWO: Cut around your stitching line, leaving a small seam allowance. STEP THREE: Turn your finger puppet right side out. Piggy! STEP FOUR: Stuff piggy's head. STEP SIX: Wolfie! Ta-Da! Goldilocks & the 3 Bears Finger Puppets -- TUTORIAL. Whew! After a short break from my finger puppets, here is the next installation: I just love these guys!!! Once again I just used "stuff" I had on hand -- you can certainly replace items in my supply list with whatever you've got! STEP TWO: Noses! Pinch the circle below the nose... ...like this. You will pinch a little more of the excess above the nose (I didn't do quite as much as I did below the nose) and continue your stitching to the top edge of the snout. STEP THREE: Attach your bear's snout, starting at the top, and go all the way around. STEP TWO: Pull your needle through. Finger Puppets: Red's Grandma -- TUTORIAL.

My Little Red Riding Hood finger puppets are rather detailed, so I'll be posting them piece by piece. First up is Granny! There are lots of details -- you certainly don't have to do all of this if you don't want to. But all those details are what I love, so bear with me!! (Find instructions for Wolfie here, and Red Riding Hood here, and the Woodsman here.) (not a fantastic photo of her -- sorry! Red Riding Hood Finger Puppets WHAT YOU NEED:~ fleece for Grandma's skin~ grey yarn for hair~ button for granny's bun (see picture in hair tutorial) OR bead~ paperclip or ornament hanger for glasses~ grandma-y fabric -- just a scrap!

Start out by making the basic puppet from the "person" pattern. STEP ONE: Grandma's jammies. Also attach lace trim around neck of jammies, pulling it straight in front of the foot as you go. Pull open the lace edge of the sleeves and topstitch in place. STEP TWO: Sew the side seams. I went ahead and sewed the rest of the back seam after they were on her! Glasses! Finger Puppets: Red Riding Hood -- TUTORIAL. My Red isn't completely finished, but I do have patterns and tutorials for her dress and cape. Read on! (Find instructions for Red's Grandma here, Wolfie here, and the Woodsman here!) Red Riding Hood Finger Puppets Create your basic person body as described in Step One here. Attach Red's hair as described for Goldilocks, here. In this photo I wanted to show you the difference between the separated strands, left, and the regular yarn strands, right. I separated the strands after the hair was all attached and knotted. For Red's dress you will need:(you can use this pattern for Goldilocks' dress too!)

STEP ONE: Cut out one dress pattern from your fabric scrap, aligning the pattern arrows on the fold. STEP TWO: Finger press the armholes back just slightly, as shown. STEP THREE: Stitch your teeny little folds, down and then back up on each armhole. STEP FOUR: Turn the hem up approximately 1/4" and sew. STEP FIVE: Finger press the three top edges of the dress down a scant 1/4". Finger Puppets: The Woodsman -- TUTORIAL. Here's the final character in my Red Riding Hood Finger Puppet series: The Woodsman! (Find Red Riding Hood here, Grandma here, and Wolfie here) SUPPLIES:~ fleece scrap for his body~ plaid fabric scrap for his shirt~ finger of "one size"-type glove for his hat~ yarn for his beard~ twig for his ax~ grey felt scrap for his ax STEP ONE: Create his basic body by sewing around the person pattern on a piece of doubled fleece.

(Basic instruction can be found in step one here.) STEP TWO: Print shirt pattern (see end of post) and cut one from your plaid fabric scrap. STEP THREE: Turn one inner edge a scant 1/8" and topstitch. It should look like this. STEP FOUR: Sew the underarm/side seams. STEP FIVE: I really should have done this before sewing the side seams, but forgot. A little bit torturesome, but it's such a cute detail! STEP SIX: Hand stitch the front of the shirt closed, with the finished side overlapping the unfinished side. At this point he was looking a little, well, like a rap singer.
