Monday-Friday Kitchen Towels Tutorial. Today's tutorial is from Amanda of Be Sweet... she is also participating in our giveaway in March...so stay tuned to see what she will be giving away! I have been in desperate need of some new kitchen towels for oh... say 2 years. So the other night at Target I found these soft ( think Sham-Wow) towels 10 for $10. I loved the bright colors but wanted to spruce them up a little as they usually hang right on my stove for all to see... and well... looks matter. :) Want to make some?
Thought so... Grab some towels and fabric you want to look at Monday thru Friday. Next, grab a erasable marker and write out M, T, W,T, F ( I did my free hand but you can use a stencil too) Cut them out - OK VERY IMPORTANT - Once they are all cut out get them wet, throw them in the dryer for a bit to erase your marker lines. ( If you don't and iron over them it will set your marker and you will be sad.) I used Stitch Witchery to secure them to the towels before stitching around the edge. 247703663. Vintage Sheet File Folders-Tutorial. Pot Holder Tutorial. A quick and fun tutorial from Evelyn at Use the Loot. Perfect way to use up your scraps. So, as long as I'm not getting any work done, let me show off a little potholder project I whipped up recently...
This here is a little pile of what I think of as "sheet selvages". They are the bottom hems that aren't really useful for much. I used to throw them away, but then I wondered if I might be able to use them for something. I cut 9" squares of muslin and Insul-Brite, layered them, and then sewed strips on as if they were selvages - the folded edge goes on top, the cut edge gets covered up by the next strip, which is top-stitched down. I made two like this, trimmed them up, put them back-to-back (rotated one by 90 degrees, not that it really matters), serged the edges and bound it like a quilt. And there you go, one potholder!
Thanks Evelyn for a fun tutorial! Sew Homegrown. Well it finally feels like summer! I don't know how it's been where you live, but we've had a pretty cool spring, and I am ready for warm days and balmy nights. Today I want to share my Beach Ball Pillow Tutorial with you. Where might you put a beach ball pillow you ask? Well, depending on the color palate you choose it could easily find a home right on your living room couch!
One that I made ended up on my daughter's bed, and is just the thing to make her room feel a bit more summery. So let's start with fabric selection shall we? My tutorial today is for the traditional beach ball - made with the nautical colors of white, red, white, blue, white, yellow. I choose some lovely Kona cotton solids. I had never sewn with Kona cotton before, and let me tell you - it makes a difference. But really, beach balls can be made in any combination of colors - I even made one in different shades of pink! So now that you've chosen your fabrics, you'll need 1/3 yard of each color. Scissors Pins Needle/Thread.
