Michael Kirkbride Q&A

<Mojo> Who or what is the Nu-Hatta?

<MK> A moth-priest of high station.

<Neradac> Clockwork City, what is its purpose?

<MK> Sotha Sil never figured that out. But a fellow dunmer will.

<Neradac> Where is the Clockwork City?

<MK> It's where he said it was, in that thing I did not write.

<GrimGrimoire> Is Sotha Sil dead?

<MK> Yes, Sotha Sil is dead. You'll see him again in C0DA, though, and he's awesome.

<myrrlyn> Is N the New Man?

<MK> N means that, yes.

<Cimbri> How does one perceive the "untimes" of "previous" kalpas? Through an artificial meta-time or...?

<MK> Short answer: always through the dreamsleeve. Oh wait, here's an answer: The dreamsleever? Unless it's obscure and on a post somewhere, should now be obvious.

<Cimbri> Are Akavir and Atmora actual continents and should perceived as such, or are they rather mirror images of Nirn?

<MK> The only continents that are not real... that would be Aldmeris. The rest of them might have shared Pangaea thing, but only one is a memory. A fabricated memory. Think on Aldmeris and why so many of the Thalmor think the way they do.

<OPG> Why did Vivec+Nerevar visit A(l)tmora and not Aldmeris, if they're the Mannish/Merrish perspectives of proto Tamriel?

<MK> Aldmeris is not a real thing. I thought that was obvious by now.

<myrrlyn> What is Snow-Throat's Stone?

<MK> The cave.

<OPG> What are the Stones of Crystal-Like-Law, Falinesti, and Orichalc?

<MK> CLL: a person. F: a fruit. O: a sword.

<myrrlyn> Is Ceporah Tower a Mythic Tower, and if so, what is its Stone?

<MK> Never heard of that random-ass Tower.

<Dovahkiin> Do you have a ballpark number for how many Towers we don't know about currently?

<MK> Not really, but only because they are not a concern of mine. I know of one that isn't listed. It will be addressed.

<SemblioSanctii> Do the Thalmor, as of the time of Skyrim, posess the knowledge and means to manipulate Ur-Tower?

<MK> Out of my pay rate. Have another.

<OPG> What was Molag Bal's name during the Dreugh kalpa?

<MK> Molag Bal. They endure.

<_stille_> "Then Wulfharth said: "Don't you see where you really are? Don't you know who Shor really is? Don't you know what this war is?" And they looked from the King to the God to the Devils and Orcs, and some knew, really knew, and they are the ones that stayed." What did they know?

<MK> They were inside the Dragon Break of the Red Moment.

<myrrlyn> What is the Exact-Egg-Cracking?

<MK> The Hist version of the New Man. Rather, the way they would do it. They wait long.

<myrrlyn> How did the Mane die?

<MK> Assassin from the Thalmor.

<myrrlyn> Is there a third gender of Dragon (besides Jill and Drake)?

<MK> Not in the way you mean. The original Skyrim spitballs for dragons? "Organic Time Machines." That still applies to me. "Genders" is just a designation of purpose.

<Dovahkiin> In musical terms, would you say that the Void is subgradiated noise, pure silence, or something else entirely?

<MK> I would say it's deafness. Better; Try not to imagine a world without music.

<myrrlyn> Could the Towers be construed as Tuning Forks, given your music statement yesterday?

<MK> Yes, maybe. More like maestros.

<Mojo> What is Tsaescence?

<MK> Their version of High Perception.

<SemblioSanctii> Are the survivors of the Parliament of Craters still extant?

<MK> Yes.

<Mojo> What is the connection between Pelinal and Zurin?

<MK> Nothing but the Throne.

<SemblioSanctii> Any prominent surviving Animal Cult-like groups besides the Moth Priests that might be particularly prominent?

<MK> Yes, and they will be expanded on. Cathnoquey, for obvious reasons.

<Dovahkiin> What is the Treasure Wood Sword?

<MK> The antique came-before lines of a martial art that showed how straight lines could bend into the ideas of sineswaves that were needed for Moon-Axle.

<OPG> What is Sithis?

<MK> At its basest, it would be complete and utter misanthropy.

<Dovahkkin> Which primal or cosmic forces can tonal architecture control?

<MK> Tonal Architecture can do anything synæsthesia can do. Unless you're a dumb deaf dreamer.

<OPG> Why didn't the ALMSIVI acquire plane(t) forms outside Nirn upon apotheosis, as Mannimarco did?

<MK> ALMSIVI got kilt or ran or had other ideas.

<RottenDeadite>• Biting: This term seems to mean one thing in the Lessons and another elsewhere. Are they the same thing? What the heck is Biting, basically?

<MK> Borrowing with no intention of keeping it as it was in its original form.

<RottenDeadite> Can you talk about Vivec's Children for me?

<MK> They are all of the metaphors made real for hir to deal with before the Hortator.

<RottenDeadite> Who or what is the Drowned Lamp?

<MK> Knowledge that is lost.

<RottenDeadite> Wait, what? Then why does Vivec say that the Drowned Lamp is a possible "ending" for Cyrus?

<Mojo> Cyrus could be lost, even in the history books.

<MK> Know-- jinx.

<SemblioSanctii> Did any important organs/organ-analogues of Lorkh's besides the Heart survive, and if so might they be present on the moons?

<MK> Yep, a buncha his shit is up in them motherfuckers.

<Neradac> What exactly happens to pieces of the moon when, during a phase, they turn transparent?

<MK> Mistranslation. They are Legion now. It was going to happen at one time. Still will.

<myrrlyn> How do we reconcile the Nirn-centric system with the fact that the sun moves against the stars?

<MK> Accident in code that is now canon.

<Neradac> Where did the khajiit originate from?

<MK> From an Earth Bone that had a fetish.

<myrrlyn> When did Zurin and Wulfharth die, if you will, relative to Numidium's activation?

<MK> That aren't "dead."

<SemblioSanctii> Does Meridia's interest in the Mundus have to do with the usual Daedric interest in the Arena, or more in being the only way a wayward solar daughter can still connect with anything that Magnus was ever associated with?

<MK> Wayward daughter.

<OPG> Is Y'ffre/Jephre significantly tied to Kyne/Kynareth?

<MK> Not that I'm aware of or working on.

<myrrlyn> How does the Sharmat's line I AM OLDER THAN MUSIC tie in with the concept of Music as a fundamental element of the world?

<MK> He's ego-trippin' and balls-trippin' at the same time. Remember, that quote is from the Sermons. Consider the source.

<myrrlyn> What is the Second Walking Way?

<MK> The long road that the enemy always puts before you but you walk it anyway.

<Neradac> Are the Elder Scrolls fragments of Aka? Since Ada-Mantia is both a scroll case and Aka's capsule?

<MK> No to the former. Aka's capsule? Yes, it held one. A big one.

<RottenDeadite> "Love is under My Will Only." Is Vivec saying that everyone else's will is the same as his own? Or is this more of the I AM ALL ARE WE stuff?

<MK> The clue is the word "my."

<Neradac> Who is Alinor? Or if he wasn't someone, what's the insect god the Thalmor so lovingly worship?

<MK> It's the oldest name of the Set. It wasn't a person in the sense you mean.

<OPG> Were the Sload going to be in Morrowind?

<MK> Yes.

<Mojo> What's the connection between Mankar and Vivec saying this: “Whisper to earth and earth [...]"?

<MK> That's an actual Mesopotaslkjdklasjdlskjdalksj curse I "bited."

<RottenDeadite> Is the Triangular Gate shaped thusly because of ALMSIVI or because of a different (but likely related) triune of forces?

<MK> The latter. Which begs the question, who in the triune is Anu?

<SemblioSanctii> What's the deal with Agnorith Septim?

<MK> No idea.

<Mojo> Did Tosh Raka mantle Akatosh?

<MK> Yes. But no in the sense that Tamriel has.

<Hermit_Qabal> Why are beards important to the spiritual difference between menfolk and merfolk?

<MK> ...beards were mortals' first physical manifestation of argument stances. No joke.

<Hermit_Qabal> Thalmor - Woodsy connection (Mora: forest) or somethingsomething Elhnofex Hermy tentacleshit?

<MK> Morag Tong meant "Forester's Guild" -- and FUCKING CUT THEM WEEDS.

<RottenDeadite> Why do people have to wear breathing apparatus on Secunda in the Sword Meeting?

<MK> Because the Void is psychosomatic. Think of it as constant anxiety being out there. With a heavy dose of paranoia. "Breathing" is a... metaphor. "You can learn how." Cyrus can breathe it, because he's Cyrus. But because he's Cyrus he takes no chances with that shit. Which is why he wears a suit. He's not Superman, he's I Know My Limits Man. Don't forget, every time he lets his feelings out, bad shit happens. Well, not always bad. But reactive. Physically and violently. The scene between him and Iszara on the boat is probably the only point that he stammers. Sometimes I think we forget that Cyrus really fucking likes to get into fights.

<SemblioSanctii> Whatever DID make the left-handed elves so sinistral?

<MK> They Fought Different. That's a thing in Yoku.

<Mojo> What is the Breaking mentioned in the Magne-Ge text?

<MK> Magnus left.

<myrrlyn> Why was Trinimac left behind on Mundus when Auri-El ascended to Aetherius?

<MK> Trinimac is probably one of the least understood underpinnings of the whole pantheon. I like him that way, but I would study Mithras if you really want to find out more.

<ginja_ninja> Would you care to offer some insight on what a more accurate aspiration for the Thalmor's realization of their goals would be [...]?

<MK> The Thalmor is easily the most dangerous organization in the Aurbis. Moreso than Talos. They cannot be understood. They are the Other and they hate everything that even smells like mortality. And they're going to win in the end.

<Mojo> Is Lyg a former Kalpa's name for Tamriel?

<MK> It's one of the Adjacent Places. It's still there. I wouldn't call it a different kalpa so much as a parallel version of Tamriel.

<XAYAH> So does Lyg exist in the same "worldspace" or however you want to call it as Tamriel?

<MK> "Try not to imagine a Lyg." It's Tamriel in a parallel dimension. I never said it wasn't on Nirn.

<Hollymarkie> What caused the Wanderers and Old Ehlnofey to split? What was the cause of their war?

<MK> That was the Dawn. Wars then were ideologies given skin.

<trexalfa> Who is the Dark Brotherhood's Night Mother?

<MK> Sermon 22 speaks to the nature of the Night Mother.

<hircine1> Was KINMUNE the "Eye of Magnus" as represented in Skyrim?

<MK> I'll just say I'm a fan of that idea.

<hircine1> Where was Yagrum during the events of Red Mountain?

<MK> In a pocket reality called "Plot Device."

<guy231> When and where was Aka-tusk worshipped? Was Alduin always an aspect of Aka, or did he become one after Akatosh was created?

<MK> All of the akaspirits, like all of the et'Ada, are quantum figures that shed their skin as each aspect of them becomes more and more self-aware. The Aka-Tusk is a particularly old and needed version of the Time Dragon from the days of the Ehlnofey.

<numinit> Who -- or what is the Underking?

<MK> Better question: WHO are the Underkings?

<guy231> Could you elaborate on what useful teachings Azura provides to the Dunmer?

<MK> Azura deserved what she got at the Trial. Faker.

<TheNerdler> Who exactly is Nir?

<MK> The first possipoint.

<Ushnad_gro-Udnar> What does the politcal structure of the An-Xileel look like? It seems strange that the Hist would even need a political party to exercise control since they have control over Argonian minds.

<MK> Whatever the An-Xileel wants you to believe it is, don't. These are LIZARDS.

<Mojo> How did Mankar recreate himself? Is it similar to the Jung philosophy in that he took control of his own conception and birth? Did he do it through a Dragon Break?

<MK> He didn't do it through a Dragon Break. He did it with the Razor, cutting his nymix back into a versioned Dawn. Think Hellraiser and you're close.

<MK> Dwemer fireworks are a thing.
