Telephone (music video) On January 13, 2010, the song was unofficially aired in the UK on the Lucy And Brooke Show for HCR radio. The song has peaked at three on the US Billboard Hot 100 and topped the US Pop Songs Chart. The song became Lady Gaga's sixth consecutive number one single. The song was released to US radios on January 26, 2010. Writing and inspiration The song was originally believed to be titled "Underground" after a song of the same name was registered on ASCAP, citing Jerkins as a co-writer (with no original writer credited). The main inspiration behind the song was Gaga's fear of suffocation and being unable to get out and have a good time due to the amount of work "suffocating" her. The Making Of A trailer titled, The Making Of Telephone was posted on Darkchild's official website on November 21, 2009. Composition Musically, the song consists of an expanded bridge, verse-rap and an epilogue where the telephone line is disconnected.
