Desktop version
Last month Hans Rosling, the Swedish global health professor, statician and sword swallower released a desktop version of Gapminder World, his mesmerizing data visualization tool. Named one of Foreign Policy's top 100 global thinkers in 2009, the information design visionary co-founded Gapminder.org with his son and daughter-in-law aiming to make the world's most important trends accessible and digestible to global leaders, policy makers and the general public.

A StreamGraph is shown for the latest 1000 tweets which contain the search word. The default search query is 'data visualization' but a new one can be typed into the text box at the top of the application. You can also enter a Twitter ID preceded by the '@' symbol to see the latest tweets from that user. A parameter to the URL can be used to specify the initial search word. For example, use http://www.neoformix.com/Projects/TwitterStreamGraphs/view.php?

Daniel Catt from Flickr maps 24 hours worth of geotagged photos (about 64,000 of them) on this animated 3-D globe (below). The project was implemented in Processing , which shouldn't come as much of a surprise to anyone, and we've seen this type of 3-D globe thing before . What's cool here is that all the data came from the Flickr API :

The Google Earth blog recently posted some examples of how well Google Earth can be used as a scientific visualization platform.
Lo que muestra este gráfico son las frecuencias de aparición de los números de la loto, en concreto todos los números de la Lotería Primitiva y la Bonoloto en España desde 1988 hasta 2006. Cada color representa una bola numerada, del 1 al 49. Las líneas van trazando la frecuencia de aparición de cada número de un año al siguiente, indicado cuando cruzan con los ejes. El centro se corresponde con una frecuencia del 4% y el anillo exterior del 20% (con saltos cada 1%). Todos los números tienden a agruparse en torno a un círculo que estaría exactamente en el valor 12,24% (6/49). Esa es la probabilidad de que un número cualquiera aparezca en la combinación ganadora de un sorteo.
