The device doesn’t look like much: a caterpillar-sized assembly of metal rings and strips resembling something you might find buried in a home-workshop drawer. But the technology behind it, and the long-range possibilities it represents, are quite remarkable. The little device is called a milli-motein — a name melding its millimeter-sized components and a motorized design inspired by proteins, which naturally fold themselves into incredibly complex shapes.
This minuscule robot may be a harbinger of future devices that could fold themselves up into almost any shape imaginable. The device was conceived by Neil Gershenfeld, head of MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms, visiting scientist Ara Knaian and postdoctoral associate Kenneth Cheung, and is described in a paper presented recently at the 2012 Intelligent Robots and Systems conference. A four-segment milli-motein chain with a one-centimeter module size. It’s part of an overall approach, Gershenfeld explains, to “turning data into things.” The YGD 2012 Game-making Award Winners | BAFTA Young Game Designers. The Wood Database | Hardwood and Softwood Lumber Identification for Woodworking. The Wood Database. Clockwise from top left: black and white ebony, Brazilian rosewood, Carpathian elm burl, zebrawood, redheart, tigre caspi, kingwood, tulipwood, and canarywood (center) In a flurry of Googling “periodic table of ______” the other day, I happened upon a really neat website: The Wood Database.
The database was created by Eric Meier, who originally began compiling specs on different types of wood for his own personal use, to use as a guide in selecting the appropriate wood for projects. He eventually moved his database online, to share with the public. For a given variety of wood, The Wood Database has images of the wood grain in various stages of preparation (sanded, sealed, endgrain).
It’s a great resource for anyone who works with wood. Eric says: If you’ve got a project, and you’re looking for the right wood; or if you’ve got a stash of lumber, and you’re looking for a suitable project, The Wood Database can help. Related. It's quite likely that one of these modules will work for you though you might have to search through the script to find the right module. The lastest one worked for me, I'd start by downloading and trying that. wget tar xfv 8192cu-20120701.tar.gz sudo mv 8192cu.ko /lib/modules/3.1.9+/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ sudo insmod /lib/modules/3.1.9+/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/8192cu.ko If you then enter iwconfig and are presented with a list containing wlan0 then the module was successfully loaded. If none of the pre-compiled modules work then you may have to build your own, however, this isn't as simple as it should be. Once you have the module loaded you will need to configure your network. Start by setting up the interface: sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces and add the below text to the end of the file: then: sudo nano /etc/wpa.conf.

Design submitted by Pawel from Germany. Pawel says: Years ago a watch with full color matrix display was considered futuristic, now it is state-of-the-art. However, transparent displays are uncommon and still appear futuristic to us. An idea of a transparent watch is fascinating to me. This is a design of a futuristic watch showing time in midair which is possible to make with contemporary technology.
The watch shows analog time on an LCD (or OLED) display. This is a unisex design for everyone who likes futuristic and/or minimalistic watch design and appreciate the rare effect of having time shown in midair. Autographer wearable camera will save your life… or track your staff. Microsoft created a stir with its SenseCam wearable camera a decade ago, and now OMG (Oxford Metrics Group) has announced Autographer, an updated version aimed mainly at the consumer market.
Both were designed by electronics engineer Lyndsay Williams, formerly of Microsoft Research and now managing director of her own Girton Labs. The SenseCam was designed to help people with Alzheimer's disease or other memory problems to capture their life experiences and share them with their doctors and carers. This patented "memory enhancement camera" captures the wearer's day in about 2,000 images, which can be replayed in about five minutes. The result is somewhere between still pictures and a movie, and makes events more accessible than viewing hundreds of hours of CCTV recordings. The SenseCam's medical application was featured in a BBC2 TV Eyewitness programme in 2010, which also explored its effect on eye-witness reports of a pub fight. This article is about Euler's formula in complex analysis. For Euler's formula in algebraic topology and polyhedral combinatorics see Euler characteristic. Euler's formula, named after Leonhard Euler, is a mathematical formula in complex analysis that establishes the fundamental relationship between the trigonometric functions and the complex exponential function. Euler's formula states that, for any real number x, Euler's formula is ubiquitous in mathematics, physics, and engineering. The physicist Richard Feynman called the equation "our jewel" and "the most remarkable formula in mathematics History[edit] It was Johann Bernoulli who noted that[3] And since the above equation tells us something about complex logarithms.
Bernoulli's correspondence with Euler (who also knew the above equation) shows that Bernoulli did not fully understand complex logarithms. Meanwhile, Roger Cotes, in 1714, discovered that ("ln" is the natural logarithm with base e).[4] where the real part the imaginary part . . DTG :: DTT Receiver Downloads. Software Update. Comment: nightmare result for dream team | Cycle Sport. The entire peloton rode for Team GB and Mark Cavendish to lose the Olympic road race. Perfectly reasonable. Words by Edward Pickering Saturday July 28, 2012 Chapatte’s Law is a bike racing rule of thumb, named after the French television commentator who invented it, which says that in order to stay away, a break needs one minute’s lead for every 10 kilometres remaining. When the Great Britain team crested Box Hill for the last time in the Olympic men’s road race, one minute behind a large break of riders, with 45 kilometres left to The Mall, the balance of power still looked to favour the home nation.
Until this point, Great Britain looked to have control of the race. But perhaps the riders of Team GB, David Millar, Ian Stannard, Chris Froome, Bradley Wiggins and Cavendish overestimated their own strength. What went wrong? Nothing. First, they rode to make Cavendish lose. 3) Race radios There were no race radios in the Olympic road race. 7mm Thick Pico Projector Can Produce a 70 inch Image (video.
Explay's pico projector is just 7mm thick, but it packs a huge punch. Japan’s Explay Ltd recently announced that it has begun to ship its pico projector engines to developers around the world. The Explay Projector Engine is only 6.7 cubic centimeters in size and just 7mm thick (~1/4 of an inch). Despite its tiny dimensions, the pico projector generates 14 lumens laser light on just 1.3 Watts of power (1.8 with control circuits) and can produce images 7 to 70 inches in size. Resolution is a respectable 852×480 and with a laser based system it should stay in sharp focus over a wide range (20 to 200cm).
While Explay’s pico projector doesn’t have the best picture quality stats we’ve seen, it’s pretty damn good. [image credits: Explay Ltd] [source: Explay Press Release (PDF), Explay site]

Wi-Fi positioning performs best where GPS is weakest, in urban areas and indoors. Click here for details on Wi-Fi data collection methodology and coverage. GPS provides highly accurate location results in "open sky" environments, like rural areas and on highways. But in urban areas and indoors, tall buildings and ceilings block GPS' view of satellites, resulting in serious performance deficiencies in time to first fix, accuracy and availability.
GPS or A-GPS alone cannot provide fast and accurate location results in all environments. Cell tower triangulation provides generalized location results with only 200 - 1000 meter accuracy. It serves as a coverage fallback when neither GPS nor Wi-Fi is available. Placelab.org - placelab Resources and Information. This website is for sale!
