Whilst studying textile design in London during the 1960’s, Anthony Haines began producing narrow hand-woven ties which were a hit with the fashion houses of the day, such as Simpsons, Aquascutum, Moss Bros and Burberry.
Soon the demand for the product allowed him to open his own mill in Selkirk, Scotland in 1975, which still produces his wonderful worsted and tweed ties to this day. Breaking away from the traditional Scottish look, Anthony soon found a market for his classical designs for ladies and menswear tweed fabrics with Couture Houses, including Vivienne Westwood in London, and Christian Dior in Paris. Knowing the importance of integrity in the tartan industry, Ingles Buchan always had their cloth woven at the Anthony Haines textile mill. The opportunity to buy the mill arose for Ingles Buchan textiles when Anthony Haines retired.
