Crochet. Crochet Pattern: Vintage Daisy Motif. UPDATE 10/8/13: Because I get these questions over and over, I’ll update here! I have since purchased and used the Hana-Ami Flower Loom. It comes with basic instructions. To make the blanket, you can use the join-as-you-go method. Just follow the last-round instructions (the green) and JAYG using this diagram. I’ve been obsessing about these vintage afghans that seem to be floating all over on the web these days. Afghan 1 available at Dahlilah Found Vintage, afghan 2 I wanted to find the crochet pattern for these afghans and use it as a jumping-off point for a purse. I used a 4 mm hook, resulting in a 4 inch motif. Join color B (white in this example) to the inside loop of one of the sc. After you have joined color B, chain 12 as shown in the photo below.

Slip stitch into the same loop you started in to make the first petal. Join color C (green in this example) to any petal. There, done. And now I’m off to draft a purse pattern and find a flower loom . . . Like this: Like Loading... Granny Square Slippers. My cousin Katie recently spent some time in the Republic of Georgia and brought me back these amazing blue and pink crocheted slippers. She reported that similar slippers were for sale at all the marketplaces, always in bright and unexpected color combinations. Upon closer inspection, I saw that each slipper was made up of six equally sized granny squares. How beautifully simple! I love when intelligent design meets handcraft, when innovative engineering meets a house slipper. For my take on the traditional design, I wanted the slippers to look even more homespun and funky, so I used Manos del Uruguay's Handspun Semi Solid yarn. I think the unevenness of the spin and the variations in the kettle dyed colors add a little cozy character to the slippers.

Adjusting the size of these slippers is so easy that I made a pair for both my husband and me. The Materials Women's Slippers 3 skeins of Manos del Uruguay's Handspun Semi Solids. Fans of Discovery’s Shark Week® have been glued to their televisions this week, and if we had that channel I’m sure my youngest would be among them. He’s been a big fan of sharks ever since his first trip to an aquarium.

He’s also a big moogly fan… as long as I’m making things for him. So this week’s project goes to him. And the pattern goes to all of you! Stepping off the plane from Tokyo, the blast of cold air that greeted me came as quite a shock, as I had thought that New England was experiencing very similar weather during my absence. Sure, 60 – 70 degrees over in Tokyo is nothing to write home about, but compared to the 30 – 40 degree rains over here, it seems like a tropical paradise!

Periodically raining, shining, and then raining again, the rivers have swollen to impressive proportions, fed by brief but massive downpours. Wanting to capture some of the rapidly moving water passing through a nearby stream, I wandered down into town a bit, camera in tow, snapping pictures every few feet. From the distance between us, I couldn’t be entirely sure of the accuracy of my vision; Certainly a baby alligator would never turn up in such a remote area, especially without a parent in sight! Monday Project - Crocheted May Flowers. May Day inspired me to design a new crocheted flower! Our spring wildflowers are winding down and with hot weather quickly approaching, I'm resisting the urge to buy out the nursery center to replace them. It never works for long! For the moment, though, I've been enjoying all the beautiful colors in our yard. I've crocheted flowers quite a bit over the years and have always wished crochet thread in bright colors was easier to come by. Materials: *embroidery floss - one regular sized skein makes one large petal and one smaller petal with thread left over *size 4 steel crochet hook *beads *beading or thin embroidery needle *sewing thread For each flower, make one bigger petals piece and one smaller petals piece. Larger Piece 1. Smaller Piece 1. Leaf 1. I went crazy with all the luscious colors of embroidery floss I had! Sewing the Flower Together 1. 2. These are the flowers I've put together so far - some have leaves and some don't.
